After recall, overnight charge not reaching 100%

First, my car is already in buyback, so no longer my problem. I'm just calling it out in case someone else is noticing the same.

I normally L2 charged at home.

Prior to getting the recall update, no issues.

After getting the recall update, I noticed my car was not fully charging to 100%. After most overnight charges I'd get in the car and it would be between 97% to 99%, but not 100. There should have been more than enough time to get to 100%.

I wrote it off as maybe being some quirk of the recall. Some new power draw or maybe my 12V starting to go.

Now in hindsight could that have been an indication of problems?

Anyone else noticing L2 charging coming up short after the recall?

Are 2023 and later LEAF batteries different from 2022 and prior?

Since I am looking at a buyback I am starting to look at options.

While the smart money would be to look at a newer/different EV which has CCS/NACS, thermally managed battery, and so on... I still dearly loved the LEAF for the short time I had it. A 2023 or newer LEAF may still be on my list.

That said, is there any difference between the batteries of the 2023 and later vs 2022 and prior?

Google's AI makes the following statements from these queries:

"are 2023 and later nissan leaf batteries more or less reliable than the 2022 and prior"

>Advanced Cathode Composition: Nissan transitioned from older NMC532 chemistry used from 2018–2022 to an advanced NMC811 cathode for the larger packs starting in 2023, boosting energy density and longevity.

"does nissan leaf use "NMC811" battery"

>Yes, later model years of the Nissan Leaf (specifically starting from the 2023 model year) transitioned to using an NMC811 (nickel-manganese-cobalt 8:1:1) cathode chemistry for improved energy density.

Both responses are derived from Reddit posts, not any official Nissan sources.

There is a reference to a 2022 article which states:

>The battery pack change isn’t just capacity (gross, not usable, in the Leaf’s case). Nissan told Green Car Reports that there are actual battery-chemistry changes at play

Are these statements true? Do 2023 and later use NMC811 vs the NMC532 in 2022 and prior? Would an NMC811 without thermal management be any more reliable?

Welp...

2022 SL Plus. Recall applied June 12.

Was driving along at interstate speeds when the dash lit up. The big nasty "Service EV System", the orange exclamation, and turtle mode. Fortunately I was on the downhill and was able to maintain speed to the next exit and was able to safely pull into a convenience store.

Turned off the car, turned back on, errors persisted. Got a LeafSpy capture.

DTC of death... P33ED... Called for a tow.

The car still moves and turtle is no longer lit, but did not want to chance it at highway speeds.

Car is currently at the local dealership. Will see what tomorrow brings.

First DCFC after recall remedy -

Had the recall remedy applied to my 2022 LEAF SL PLUS last Friday, June 12. Prior to this the car only had 1 QC session per LeafSpy. I do not have a pre-recall charge session to compare with.

Took it to a nearby Chargepoint DCFC station capable of 62kw. Brand new, attached to a very nice convenience store. The station has both CHAdeMO and CCS connections.

CHAdeMO peaked out around 52kw.

A2Z CCS adapter peaked out around 43kw. Adapter has C013 (2026-03-27) firmware.

Found the adapter to be a bit fidgety. It seemed to take a bit of force to get it attached to the car correctly. And then when I went to remove the adapter from the car it seemed stuck. I gave it another good push until I heard a click and then it released. Probably just first time user error. The CCS side of the connector was fine.

Oh, and bought a pickle and some scratchers in the store, as one does when charging. 😄

Edit - One of the scratchers "won" $3.

R24B2 / R25C8 Recall updates - New documents

This is for US built 2019-2022 LEAFs.

New documents added to the collection on the NHTSA site.

Notification to dealers dated May 19:
https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2025/RCMN-25V655-0623.pdf

Remedy instructions:
https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2025/RCRIT-25V655-5430.pdf

The links are from R25C8, but it appears identical docs were posted to R24B2.

Supposedly owner letters will start going out this month. I myself am going to wait a little while for the letter, but technically since "The remedy for this campaign is now available", it sounds like one should be able to contact their local dealer to start the process with or without the letter.

Full document sets:

Follow on to my previous post...

The NHTSA site concerning the US 2019-2022 LEAF R24B2/R25C8 recalls has been updated again. Now the text reads:

>A second notice will be sent once the remedy becomes available, anticipated May 20, 2026.

Additionally, a new document dated 4/29/2026 has been added for both recalls:

R24B2 - https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2024/RCLRPT-24V700-8406.pdf
R25C8 - https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2025/RCLRPT-25V655-2050.pdf

Both contain the following statement:

>Dealers will be notified of the final remedy on May 15, 2026. The owner notification will be conducted in a phased mailing beginning on May 20, 2026. All affected owners are expected to be notified by first-class mail no later than June 3, 2026.

Again, not holding breath, but end in sight??

So the most recent letter I received concerning R25C8 (similar for R24B2) said "Nissan expects the final remedy plan to be available within the 2026 calendar year".

However, I just noticed the NHTSA site has been updated to say:

>Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed April 6, 2026. A second notice will be sent once the remedy becomes available, anticipated between April 1 and April 30, 2026."

The same text appears for R24B2.

Light at the end of the tunnel? I guess we'll find out in a few days.
