Ukulele Players

I am new to playing the Ukulele. Maybe 15 months. I have joined in with a few ukulele group sessions and have found a trend. So many ukulele players seem to be frustraed guitar players. The put a low G string on their ukulele to make it sound like a guitar. They buy Fender or Gibson style ukukuleles to make their ukulele look like a Les Paul or a Jazzman.

The area I live in seems to have a lack of players who love "the ukulele" in all of it's glory with a high G setting and the ability to play traditional hawaian style tunes. I find the ukulele to be such a beautiful sounding instrument but in all of these groups I end up playing the Eagles or James Taylor etc...

Has any one else encountered this trend or is it just me?
