My wipers worked perfectly for almost 3 years. One day they stopped working completely. About 2 months later, without changing anything, they randomly started working again but would never park or shut off until I pulled the fuse.
Since then I've replaced:
OEM-compatible wiper motor
OEM-compatible wiper stalk
Two correct wiper control modules (same part number)
The symptoms are identical with every combination:
Positions 1-3 all run at fast speed.
The highest position runs at slow speed.

I have opened this dash all the wires look fine from the plug behind the cowl to the relay and carrier to the module and to the stalk. what kind of electrical tests should I run?

About 10 seconds after turning the ignition on, the wipers stop by themselves and the module clicks.
Unplugging the module immediately stops the wipers.
The car was completely stock in the wiper system before this started, and the wipers worked normally for years.
Has anyone seen an E36 do this? Could this be a harness, ground, relay, or park-switch wiring issue?Its the only thing stopping me from getting the inspection done and Ive already been pulled over twice this is a PITA. Help

Backstory. My wiper randomly stopped working on a beautiful day. I have bought a new motor, ended up being perfectly fine, same with the wiper switch, relays, fuses etc. wires behind firewall look fine. Pretty much the last thing to do was replace this module the community talks about. I buy the module and take off the glove box, I DONT HAVE THE MODULE. I bought this car and it has an aftermarket alarm system thing. They added this harness (the one im holding) that runs from under the steering column with a tiny little switch, all the way across the dash and now to the glove compartment module bracket and looks to have a module in itself bc what its connected to doesnt look OEM and its taped to the module bracket. Im thinking they bypassed the wiper module somehow and made them work without it cuz they worked for 2.5 years perfectly since I bought it. could it have been totally deleted or is it maybe tucked into the harness? Does anybody that knows about aftermarket alarm system know about this? How do I go about this I need my wipers man I cant pass inspection. PLEASE HELP. 1993 325i.
