Ginger’s tank mate named Mango recently died from a swim bladder issue (i think) without any warning. I constantly test my water using the API Master Test Kit, and haven’t had any issues with water perimeters so it was unusual. Mango had very mild pineconing but was mostly struggling to stay upright and ended up constantly rolling onto his side. I had noticed that since I put in a new piece of driftwood and started to notice tears on Ginger’s tail, so took it out, dried it and sanded it down so it was smooth. Ginger then had started to develop black marks on his fins and more tears.
I ended up getting Taco last week and it’s in the past few days that I have noticed Ginger starting to pineconing and the ends of his fins starting to stick together into points. He’s been perfectly fine in terms of eating and balance, though resting slightly more.
Again, the water chemistry is perfectly fine. However I have just remembered that there was a small amount of metal stuck into the driftwood as the shop had stapled a tag onto it. Would that be able to have any impact in terms of water chemistry?? I’ve just removed it.
Please let me know if anyone has any solutions or suggestions to help my little fishy!! Thank youuu
I’ve attached some photos of Ginger’s condition but my phone camera isn’t great so I couldn’t get one of his pineconing.
