Hi,

I need to get a credit card for renting cars in Europe, but I’m trying to avoid negatively affecting my Schufa because I may apply for a mortgage in the near future.

From what I understand, getting a German credit card creates a hard inquiry and lowers the Schufa score.

A few questions:

• Would opening a card from another EU country avoid Schufa entirely?
• Has anyone successfully rented cars in Europe using debit cards, at which providers, in which coutries?

Would appreciate any real experiences or recommendations.
