hey guys! i found a sublet that i think is perfect, but have never done a sublet before and just want to make sure everything sounds normal. i found a listing through craigslist (i had no luck on facebook marketplace despite many many attempts) for a room within a reasonable budget in a good location. i emailed back and forth with the person who posted it and we eventually had a video call that lasted almost 45 minutes. we had a GREAT conversation, i saw the apartment in detail, and we talked about our daily lives/what we’re looking for in a roommate. couldnt see it in person but i got very good vibes all around. we agreed on doing first month’s rent and a security deposit to secure the apartment, and she sent me her bank account information through a dropbox link. i haven’t sent anything yet because i just want to see if this is normal beforehand. i googled her as well and all of her personal information checked out. any thoughts?

Hey guys! Moving to the city soon for work and I’m subletting to start. I’m conflicted on two options I’ve found for housing. One is in PLG with a quick and easy commute to Manhattan. Minimal walking and no transfers. It’s through Airbnb with great reviews and from a Superhost. Would have three other roommates, two bathrooms, and everyone keeps to themselves. No laundry in the building, but laundromat nearby.

My other option is an apartment in Greenpoint that I found through an NYC sublet group. It’s in a new building, and I’d have one other roommate. We video chatted and she seems awesome. I can’t see the place in person because I’m out of state, but have seen it on Facetime. The commute would be a 7 minute walk to the G, a transfer to the R, and then a 9 minute walk to my office. Or, a 14 minute walk to the ferry and then 8 minute walk to my office.

Both options seem great. Similar prices. Any advice?

hi everyone, i’m looking at an apartment on the corner of 79 and 19th. i’m from out of the state and am curious if anyone has any insight on this block/neighborhood. i’ve never been to the area so just curious on peoples experiences!
