Rear brake caliper change 2018 Atlas
Hey guys, I am hoping that someone will be able to offer me some guidance in changing out a caliper on my 2018 SE. Long story short I noticed that the banjo bolt on my old rear passenger side caliper was leaking when I took it off. I found that I could no longer retract the electronic parking brake, even with the piston all the way attracted to spins and spins and spins, so I can only assume I did the dreaded breaking of the caliper. I purchased a new caliper from AutoZone and upon trying to install it 2 to 3 mm short of actually fitting over to brake pads. I’m going absolutely bananas because I am stuck where I am until I get the brakes on my car fixed and I am kind of at a loss. I’ve looked at a ton of videos online, none of them really show how to replace a caliper itself more just how to do the rear pad change. I replaced caliper on other vehicles before this is the first time I’m having to do it on this car and it is a doozy.
I have the electronic parking brake motor currently off, and the parking brake is retracted all the way I just need a few more millimeters of space to actually get over my pads
Update: So, as it turns out there are two versions of the rear brake calipers for the atlas. It all depends on when the car was manufactured. If your vehicle is manufactured pre 12/2017, like my car is, the caliper is larger. After 12/2017 the caliper has been updated and is slightly smaller. I have found that most parts places tend to neglect to show this on their website. The best solution is to go OEM and get the part for a VW dealer. Or FCP euro, if you can afford to wait.
