Never thought about drawer knobs being an issue on a standing desk

Never thought about drawer knobs being an issue on a standing desk

I just got this new desk for my home office because I wanted something that looked more traditional and matched my rug.

It’s an adjustable sit-stand desk, but I just realized today that when I raise it to my standing height and lean in to type on my laptop, the little metal knobs on the drawers poke right into my stomach.

I really like how the desk looks so I'm obviously keeping it, but I never even thought about this being an issue with traditional style hardware.

Looking for sci-fi about digital beings with ongoing public lives

I’ve been looking for sci-fi that treats digital beings less like one-off “AI becomes conscious” events and more like public lives that keep unfolding.

Not just the moment of awakening, but the boring/strange part after: routines, reputation, relationships, little choices, and people deciding whether to keep following them. Stories often jump from tool to person very fast.

I’m more interested in the middle state: an artificial being that is not exactly human, not exactly software-as-object, but has enough continuity that observers start treating its life as something with stakes. Any novels, short stories, games, or films that explore that?
