How smooth does the concrete need to be before laying tile?
Thank you in advance for any advice. It’s the first big project my girlfriend and I are working on so I’m trying to make it come out nice.
How close is this to being able to tile over? I took up the old tile, removed most of the old mortar, but there looks like a layer of maybe underlayment then the concrete subfloor so I didn’t go too deep. I plan to use a white thin set with these marble mosaic sheets over it. I’ve read some conflicting things about how flat or smooth the surface has to be before tiling. It’s definitely sound and dead level in every direction, but I’m just not sure if it has to be baby bottom smooth or if I’m close enough. I was thinking I could use a patch compound to add a skim coat to smooth it out but I’m worried I will have to have the hand to make that a smooth enough finish too. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!
Edit: Thank you all for the responses! I will use the self leveler and the primer first. Should set me up for success when I go to put down the tile, I appreciate it
