Hungry Melanargia galathea when the heat was strong (Jouy-en-Josas, Yvelines, France)

Photos were taken in end of June of this year. So it's been a good while.

It's a marbled white, or Melanargia galathea. A butterfly that is known to have quite a fearful personality. So hard to take a picture of it in general... Except when it's too busy feeding :) So I could get some beautiful angles :D

These days when I took the pictures, I had to get outside near 8-9 AM to take the pictures because when the sun was higher, the heat was unbearable... And even for our little butterflies too much heat is too much, so they tend to hide. They were all feeding on flowers in the morning, even some waking up at like 6 AM to go to eat oO It gives you an idea of how the June heat wave was hard in Europe X.X

So huge gallery of this cutie, because I find it absolutely beautiful :) Marbled whites didn't fly for very long near our work place, only for a few weeks between June and July...

He tried but still got rejected apparently (Jouy-en-Josas, Yvelines, France)

So this male tried charming a quite old and damaged female but seems she rejected him. Few minutes later he encounters her again and tries again. I thought this was going to concretize but apparently it's still a nope

Poor guy you got rejected twice X)

These are common blues :)

The lantern is their "warm moon"! (Jouy-en-Josas, Yvelines, France)

I apologize, the pics do a bit greenish because it was taken at night.

Near a lantern we have some moths regrouping because... Well quite attracted to light XD I still think that does a lot of moths so wanted to show you who was staying near it!

Though the only thing troubling me is that as long as the lantern doesn't automatically turn off, they'll remain like this, excited by staying around the light. Plus it's a bit warm, without being too hot so I think the moths quite appreciate it. "Warm moon" for them

The biggest one is prob Chiasmia clathrata by seeing the wings pattern (had the feeling it was a Geometridae when I saw it), the one on the second pic looks like Pyrausta despicata comparing to the photos a colleague had taken. The little thin Crambidae I'm not sure which one it is though oO

Cute Lycaenids :) (Vauboyen, Yvelines, France)

Little honor to this family of small but cute babies ^^

Met them today when heading back from work :) First photo shows Lycaena phlaeas (small copper) and second one a couple of Polyommatus icarus (common blue) :D

When it's too cute as an adult but a hell as a caterpillar :x (Jouy-en-Josas, Yvelines, France)

Sharing a photo I took last year, of a female Thaumetopoea pityocampa. It's rare to encounter them when they're moths, we more infamously know them as a caterpillar because... The hairs fly everywhere and it stings eyes and it can irritate skin etc :x So the staff on the center tries to get rid of caterpillars (it's common in France, we consider them as dangers to human and animal health, especially dogs) :/

But as a moth... This is just so cute actually 🥺 For the story, this girl was trying to sleep on the step of the external staircase of my building. The staircase being in stone, she thought it was a perfect place to camouflage herself and not being seen. The issue was that I was afraid someone steps on her per accident, and at the time I didn't know what species it was (I just knew it was a moth). I had managed, with difficulty because she was sleeping, to make her climb on my finger then my hand to move her somewhere she could sleep, without running the risk of being stepped on. I found a corner of flowers and let her sleep at this place. She was hidden by grass. And since at the time I didn't know what moth it was, I was talking about the moth to other people, and thought for a while it was Acronicta psi with a weird pattern (yeah, quite away from truth :x )

It's only during this summer I was wondering "wait but how the moth of pine processionary looks like" I fell on pics that looked like EXACTLY the moth on my 2025 picture. And seeing how males had feathery antennae, the one I met was a female.

Cute when it's an adult. Dangerous for our eyes and skin when it's a caterpillar :x

Tried to save a Macroglossum stellatarum (Jouy-en-Josas, Yvelines, France)

Found this cutie on the ground of my office's building. It wasn't even flying properly and was more running with its wings than properly flying. So I took it on my hand and brought it on a pink silk tree, a bit more at the south in the park of my center, and put it on a flower. Sadly, when it was trying to fly, it was falling on the leaves. Now I'm afraid it refuses feeding because possibly end of life, poor baby seemed really tired out :(

I tried saving it and I think it will be still happier on the silk tree flowers (I know moths like this one love this flower because the smell is quite strong) than on a ground of the building :/
