Iowa mutual aid coordination — looking for feedback

Hi all — I’m looking for some grounded feedback from people in Iowa who have experience with mutual aid, community support, resource sharing, organizing, or local volunteer coordination.

I’ve been working on a small coordination tool meant to help groups track things like needs, available help, skills, resources, and follow-up. The basic idea is to reduce the chaos of scattered DMs, Facebook threads, spreadsheets, and one or two people having to remember everything.

To be clear: I’m not trying to take over any existing group, centralize control, or tell anyone how to organize. I’m more interested in whether a tool built specifically around mutual aid coordination could help connect groups that already exist, while letting them stay independent.

The priorities would be:

  • privacy and safety
  • no open-access chaos
  • no doxxing or creepy data collection
  • no replacing existing groups
  • useful coordination without making things more complicated
  • Iowa-based focus

I’m mainly trying to talk with a few people who understand the practical side of this: what would actually help, what would be a bad idea, and what concerns groups would have before using any kind of coordination system.

If you’ve been involved in mutual aid, local organizing, resource sharing, community response, or similar work in Iowa, I’d appreciate your perspective.
