I often see people in TV shows walking into their homes without taking their shoes off. Do you guys really do that in real life?

I am studying abroad and I know the local language really well. Recently we had class and some of the local students were also there. I was not paying attention to them but the I heard one of them saying „ its okay they cannot understand us anyways„. Then I looked at her with a smile and she understood that we do know their language. They were embarrassed and just left the class. Why would they assume that foreign students don’t know the language of the country where they study live for years?

Hey Leute, gibt es hier jemanden der im Nicht-EU Ausland studiert (hat)? Ich bin gerade im vierten Semester in Osteuropa und überlege in Deutschland weiter zu studieren um mir die Anerkennung später zu ersparen (falls das überhaupt möglich ist). Hat hier jemand Erfahrung damit? Oder wisst ihr vielleicht wo man sich über sowas informieren kann?

Btw es ist mein Zweitstudium, falls das relevant ist
