Alana Kerry Haines (1978–1989) was 11yr old classical ballet dancer, who was killed in a car accident on Christmas Eve. Her tragic passing inspired the creation of one of Australasia's most prestigious dance competitions. Wellington, New Zealand
Promising RAD ‘Honours’ student, Alana was killed in a car accident on Christmas Eve 1989, just one day after she performed to an audience of 1500.
Her parents set up AHA Awards, giving young ballet dancers a ‘Career Platform’ to compete on an international level for cash awards & international scholarships. Finalists often go on to WIN in world famous events such as Genée & Prix de Lausanne in Europe, YAGP New York.

The Men In The Mountain. 29 died in Pike River Mine explosion 2010, Paparoa National Park, New Zealand. All 29 of their bodies have never been recovered.
In New Zealand all women had the right to vote in 19 September 1893. Making New Zealand the first self governing country in the world to grant all adult women the right to vote in parliamentary elections.
Women voted for the first time in the general election in November 1893. Māori women also gained the vote under this act. 90,290 women voted for the first time on 28 November 1893, 86% of women eligible.
Kate Sheppard spearheaded a massive petition containing nearly 32,000 signatures, roughly one third of the adult female population at the time. The 270 metre long scroll was unrolled across the floor of Parliament's debating chamber.
While Kate Sheppard was the leading figure, her campaign relied on the support and engagement of Māori women across New Zealand to demonstrate a national desire for equality for all women.

Black foot Pāua (Haliotis iris) is a type of abalone species only found naturally in New Zealand. In New Zealand it’s common to dive for and eat Pāua, meaning finding shells is incredibly easy.
In my country these are extremely common, used for ash trays, jewellery ect. I probably have over 200 of all sizes in my collection.
