First ever flower / planting in ground advice. Please

Hello,

Firstly, my first ever flower. Happy happy days. After a bunch of years of too much attention / too little attention. Here it is. Pretty stoked.

Now for the advice part, if anyone has any, it would be greatly appreciated.

Im in Melbourne, Australia. We have just come out of winter, and since i've had disastrous results forgetting about my potted outdoor brugs, and had them very much disagree with frosts, I decided to try bringing them in, and putting them in the front window, with some additional grow lights. This worked better than expected, and the plants grew like crazy.

The idea was to give them a good start, and plant them out, in the ground come springtime (now). It does get cold here (hence the frosts), but i've seen a few mature, in the ground specimens nearby, and they seem to do well.

My question is, should I simply plant them out as is? You'll see in the pics, that between the light from the window, and the growlights, they are quite leggy, and wild. Wondering if pruning them back somewhat may help in having them branch out to more of a scrub / tree shape, and also encourage more flowers later on.

Thanks for reading.
