Timelapse sewing leather glove

Cut all my pieces off camera and made a sped up recording of sewing this Horween leather into a traditional gunn cut glove (2 piece fourchette and wing thumb). Turned out well. The leather itself is about 4 years old but still had a lot of moisture in the hide so it wasn’t annoying to work with.

As far as the machine goes it’s a Juki 1510, using TKT 90 nylon bonded thread.

I mostly sewed this as an excuse to use the leather, but I also needed a reason to get out of gardening.

POV - finishing gloves

Thought folks might be interested in seeing the last step of the glove manufacturing process. This is the layoff table (steam form hand irons). We do this at the very end. It serves a lot of practical purposes. For one the irons are size appropriate which allows the gloves to stretch to the right fit (especially important if the leather varies in thickness by a hair). It also gives us an additional chance to catch defects before the official pre-ship QC. While the seams are under stress is a great time to spot issues. The seams and joints are worked under heat to soften and flatten them.

Pretty relaxing work.

Curious if anyone is aware of an elastic manufacturer in the US? This past year our elastic manufacturer went out of business (family owned operation that I believe was in business since 1904 - super sad). We’ve been exploring a few others - we’ve got quite a big supply left over - so lots of time to decide. Big key is we want the materials sourced in the US as well. Figured this would be a great sub to find recommendations.
