Free Wax

I picked up four pounds of paraffin wax at a yard sale for pennies. i am now looking for small fun projects to use wax to start with. I may try to make tarp if I have success with smaller projects.

I have some old leather boots that could use some waterproofing. Does anyone have a good recipe and techniques to waterproof leather boots with paraffin wax?

Suggestions, for projects with recipes of wax mixture are very welcome.

Edit. I am coming to the realization that free wax is kinda like a free puppy.

Painting Tyvek

I just purchased a tyvek bivi from china. My concern is it is incredibly white. If I leave sleeping bag, pad in bivy at camp and go on day hike with pack, the bright white is going to attract attention.

I would like to paint bivy so it blends into environment just a little bit better. I will be using bivy, without tent in fairly open area and want to attract as little attention as possible.

I realize I may be giving up some of the breathability of the fabric, but I live in the southwest US , and moisture is generally not a concern.

I will use spray paint and just do a light mist of a darker color.

Does anybody have any experience with doing this?
