The real meaning behind this post-credits scene in Fionna and Cake.
After the finale of Season 1 of Fionna and Cake, we see a cube and a GOLB-red pyramid come together to form an apple with a bow around it.
GOLB’s blocks used to be sentient beings, so this block can represent a person. Because the block and the pyramid come together, I believe together they represent GOLBetty. This after-credits scene may very well represent the overall theme of Season 1: Moving on from the past and growing as an individual.
The talking squirrel was content selling cursed apples in his new life apart from his toxic “roommates.” In the Tree, he “wasn’t allowed to do anything,” but he had “grown beyond the Tree,” living his own life and pursuing his own goals. Gary needed to move on from his perfectionist obsession over his “candy kingdom,” and Marshall needed to move on from his toxic mother. Simon also had trouble letting go of the past, believing his life had no meaning without Betty.
Betty sacrificed everything in her relationship with Simon. In order to save Simon, Betty made a wish that turned her into the embodiment of chaos. The apple in the post-credits scene has a bow tied onto it, just like GOLBetty’s head does. Based on the scene with the squirrel, it seems like this apple represents contentment, independence, and personal growth. Fionna World became its own separate world, no longer dependent on Simon; Simon went to therapy and was no longer dependent on Betty; GOLBetty has moved on from her old life, and is living in eternal contentment. Even Fionna learned to accept her world the way it was, no longer believing it needed to be “magical.”
