VPS4- post interview query

Recently had job interview. Job ad had mentioned about a course (desirable). Now, wondering how scoring works. If interview was not like 70% good, but that person has the course. Others interview would be 85% but no certification. How scoring would rate and which one would be first option you think?

Any ideas on that if you think can share would be helpful.

APS 5 Risk & Intel officer

Hi folks

Got short-listed for an interview. Anyone could guide what next steps from here could look like?

How many more interviews expected?

What type of questions are expected to be asked?

Any guidance from here will be highly appreciated.

Thanks.

Risk advisory - where to draw ofdering support?

Hi everyone, I am relatively new to a Risk Advisor role and would appreciate some advice.

A business unit approached me to review a risk assessment for a social event. I have already reviewed it twice and provided guidance on both occasions, including detailed follow-up notes. There are still gaps, particularly around the high-risk activities, and I have asked them to revise these using the correct template. The event is now only 4 weeks away, and they have come back asking me to review it again. Given short timeline, I told to work on revising high risk ones as they used entirely wrong template.

At what point would you draw the line between providing Risk guidance/challenge and taking too much ownership of the business unit's risk assessment? What level of support would you normally provide, and does Risk formally approve these assessments in your organisation, or does the business retain ownership and approval?

Would appreciate advice from other Risk/Assurance professionals, particularly in councils/community organisations.

Recruiter reached out but not revealing company name, is this normal or a red flag?

I am approached by a recruiter on LinkedIn about a role. He gave me the job title but would not tell me the company name in writing. He keeps asking for a 5 minute call and says he will explain everything on the phone, including who the client is.

I have asked him a few times to just share the company name or agency in writing first, but he keeps avoiding it and pushing for a call instead.

Is this normal recruiter behaviour, or should I be cautious? What could someone gain just from having my phone number, if this is not a legitimate recruiter? Has anyone come across this person or agency before? Any other red flags I should look out for before agreeing to a call?

Thanks in advance

ATO VPS4 role anyone working/ applied?

Hey everyone

I'm looking for some insights on the Intelligence and Risk Officer (APS5 & 6) roles at the ATO that were recently advertised across Australia. Is anyone currently working in one of these roles, or has anyone applied and can share their experience?

I'd love to hear any tips you have for getting shortlisted and eventually landing the job.

Any advice would be super helpful!

Thanks

Edit: APS 5&6

State Govt new role, week 5

I need some help with 1:1 feedback.

I just started a state government job, level 6, and I've always worked in the private sector before. My manager gave me manual work, generating reports, pulling status from every single spreadsheet," (lots of manual data handling, no real analytical tasks was given). Manager even pointed out errors in my manual calculations and said was seeing a similar pattern in my slides. There were practically no analytical tasks involved. No systems are used to track updates or pull information from., just copy paste huge reports, pasting same from Pde to word, and then to put slides. I got a huge pile of tasks in 4th week only, debriefed within 20last min of meeting, 10 huge tasks, and nothing before that in intiial weeks was mentioned because my boss was busy. Of course, I need to understand systems, processes, files etc and I'm a bit slow to catch on that, but why did she sound like that? I know some errors were bound to happen because the tasks were just dumped on me, explained too quickly, and all at once, so my brain barely processed it.

I asked questions a couple of days later because I was still working on another task (meeting minutes) after a Monday off.. On Tuesday, I had so many tasks lists given to do, so I think I only got to ask questions about them on Thursday. Where do I lack? What and how to improve

Vic Council job- WFH and flexibility

I got offered a full time perm role at local council, level 6. As per ad, stated Flexible and Hybrid with no mention of # of days in office. Offer letter only stated 3 days office, 2 WFH. The office is nearly 2hrs commute and I raised with hiring manager I'd request 2 office days given I have young family. It litterally takes me 12hrs to out of house and be back(6am step out, 6pm come back). Doing this for 3 days isnt sustainable for me being a mother of young kids. I was told there is a formal process of FWA which I can apply and they will decide based upon role. I confirmed if my role is applicable and was told Yes. I joined, applied FWA only to be told by them I cannot do 3 WFH Days given business needs! I always worked in private sector and this is so strange for me. Here, they even want you to complete full 8hrs in the office to sit. One cannot even go home and complete rest of the time from home. I had even requested that if I can do daycare pick n drop (on WFH days) and will step put for 30-40min and complete my.work once back lets say after 5pm. I was told NO! What is this behavior? Is this typical of local councils to be so rigid? Private sector is so result oriented, you complete tasks, meet deadlines thats pretty much it. If I come in 9am and leave by 3pm in private to complete rest time from home so be it. Why not for Council stayy? Or is this only for my boss/ team issue?
