My 6 Yr redfoot has some issues with his shell

Hello everyone this is my first time using reddit to make a post so sorry if this tag or whatever is wrong but my redfoot has seen better days, i need some help on what to do next.

Im very poor right now and just got a new place. I live in arizona and have a 6yr old redfoot who has otherwise no issues but his shell is changing color on his rear and it obviously hurts him when i use my nail to push inbetween his scoots on his rear. Please see the photos.

Before im judged im so sorry, im crying while i make this post, i just got out of homelessness and could not care for him like he used to be cared for, he has been inside for around 4months (used to live in a very nice controlled environment outside) in a small box i made with a heater, daily or something soaks in the tub.

He is very active and has solid movements waste wise.
He eats ALOT

Behavior has not changed.

Now i have looked it up and i know he has some for of infection but I dont know what to do. CAN I HELP HIM AT HOME? Do i need a vet? what exactly is wrong and what exactly do i buy from the store to help him ASAP. If i need the vet be honest and let me know what i can do till i save some checks (i just spend everything on my new place)

THANK YOU
