What's your "we did this and nobody found out" in the company story?

After a photoshoot for our season show, a group of us decided to sneak into the university pool after hours. Not egregious, but still a fun time.

Where have you seen the most power corrupted in ballet?

The corps? Principals? And how do they leverage their power to shut down others?

Working on a novel about ballet dancers and have a few questions?

Hi friends! Working on a novel set inside the world of ballet dancers and have a few questions if you wouldn't mind sharing your experience. This is set inside a conservatory/NewYorkBallet style setting.

  1. How do ballet rehearsals actually work? Are they every day? Multiple times a day? Does the company rehearse other pieces while prepping for the show, or is it all-hands on?
  2. What are the corps. vs principals dynamics? Do corps. "run the show" during rehearsal, or is that the Ballet Master?
  3. Are principals allowed to be replaced at the whim of a ballet master?
  4. Locations: when preparing for a show, do you prep in a room, or stage?
  5. What's one thing in movies, tv, or books about ballet dancers and their world that always get it wrong?
