Tailgate misaligned - sign of collision?
Hi,
I’m in the process of buying a used Volvo xc40. I’ve found one with a good dealer history (the same dealer is selling it), car history check comes back clear and it’s in generally good condition, but during the inspection a few things caught my eye:
- One of the boot struts is noisy and looks like it doesn’t have much life in it, but still works.
-At the same time I’ve noticed that the panel gaps are uneven between the boot lid and the bumper.
-There is also dirt under the carpet liners, where the spare wheel is. More on the sides where the cables go than in the spare wheel well.
First I thought that the misalignment probably comes from the failing strut and dirt from muddy boots of the previous owner. But now I’m having second thoughts..
My question for you guys:
Can it be misaligned laterally because of the boot strut or is it more likely because of a collision?
Thanks!
