Travel Placement

What companies and organisations would you recommend for a student midwife wanting to take on a short term placement abroad to expand their clinical skills and knowledge?

Just diagnosed… Need some advice

Hi, sorry if this is long but I’m 20 and have just basically been diagnosed with PCOS, my Dr said I tick all the boxes and my blood work reflects that as I have high levels of testosterone and FAI.

I’m now on a 5 year gynae referral waiting list to get the official diagnosis. I have struggled with irregular periods since I was 12, excess hair growth, insane mood swings, fatigue, i have maybe 5 skin tags on my neck and armpits, severe acne, hair thinning, and extreme weight gain.

I have tried cerelle, migrogynon 30, Yasmin, and zoely and none of them work for me, either a constant period, severe bad temper and mood swings, depression or feeling numb.

If anyone has any advice for me it would be really appreciated. In july 2024 when starting micro 30 I proceeded to gain 38kg in about 16 months with majority of it being within 10 months (about 25kg). I then switched to yasmin and zoely after but none of them stopped or slowed the weight gain. Is there anything I can do to help with this other than waiting 5 years and possibly being offered GLP-1’s or metformin?

My Dr is prescribing me levothyroxine for 2 months for acne and a cream for reducing facial hair growth whilst already being on 75mg of spironolactone.

What made/makes you want to be a midwife?

Hi everyone! Share what makes you passionate about midwifery and/or why you wanted to do it.

Are you a mum who had a good experience and that made you passionate about helping everyone achieve that? or did you have a negative experience with resulted the same.

Or is it something you came across and liked the sound of?

For me wanting to be a midwife is about improving the quality of care women receive and making their experiences positive when I can. You see so many horror stories of poor treatment or a traumatic experience that was never properly explained or debriefed with medical professionals and my goal is to improve that outcome for women to the best of my ability. I’m really passionate about advocating for women and making sure they don’t feel ignored or dismissed!
