Not sure if this has been asked or brought up before but I'm currently active duty hoping to retire on June 30, 2029. How close/far from that date can I and should I apply? Pending any open positions of course. I know the hiring process can be lengthy so I'm just trying to gauge when I should be applying and if I can even apply while I'm still active. I know for DoD positions like NCIS, there is a 180 day waiting period so I'd avoid applying to those until then.
