Ryłko black leather & suede derbies <VS> Vivobarefoot Primus Trail III All Weather FG Womens

Both pictured shoes are size 39 EU, I'm a 30 years old woman, and both models are sold as women's shoes.

I compare:

  1. Ryłko black leather & suede derbies

  2. Vivobarefoot Primus Trail III All Weather FG Womens

About 2 months ago I posted about finding a whole collection of barefoot shoe models in a Polish brand Ryłko. I bought Ryłko black leather & suede derbies. They were the most damn comfortable shoes I put on in my life EVER, they felt like wearing socks outside but also solid and protecting, with lots of room for my feet and toes. I did full 24h shifts at the hospital in them, happy and comfortable, I wore them everywhere. I walk a LOT, so I wore down the sole at the heel really fast, it's not a fault of this specific model, I've just been a shoe destroyer all my life.

Then, I decided to try Viviobarefoot, since it was posted a lot and discussed as one of more well known barefoot brands, and their trail shoes seemed to have a bit thicker soles, like in trekking shoes. I wanted to see which shoes would last longer, and to test more models in the barefoot world. I bought Vivobarefoot Primus Trail III All Weather FG Womens. To my surprise, when I put them on, they felt tight and I didn't have as much room for my toes. I gave them a chance, wore them for several weeks, everywhere and even during my 24h shifts. Still, I had an impression as if I had shoes that are not barefoot. They are very durable, but my feet suffered and I didn't wear them for as long as the Ryłko ones.

I think Viviobarefoot is better for narrower feet, I am sure there are people out there who make great use of them. Still, I was kind of surprised that there's so much difference between the two, marketed for same size of women's feet, and that a random ahh Polish brand did barefoot models better than a foreign famous brand (at least for my feet).

I know this review is really niche and compares shoes intended for city wear with shoes that are a trail model, but it was fun to test out different things and maybe some Poles in this subreddit will make use of all this.

I bought another pair of the Ryłko shoes and that's what I will be wearing, but I'll gladly accept any wide, comfortable trekking shoes suggestions in the comments.

I'm a resident doctor usually treating adults. Right now I'm spending 8 weeks of internship in a ward with children and adolescents, and today one of my patients, a teenager who is in foster care without really any funds or support, lost a screw in his glasses and one of the glass parts fell out. Saved his ass today with wire and my Bond. He will probably visit an optician at some point as well, but for now he can read and function while being hospitalized. Teenagers think I'm cool which is the ultimate coolness badge
