DNO not letting solar panels be switched on.

As a tenant organisation in Wales, we monitor a lot of tenant forums. We've picked up a number of times where a housing association has installed solar panels via an accredited supplier but they haven't been switched on for 6 months+ . The HA blaming the DNO , the DNO saying they should have waited etc. For us, it's the tenant who is fuel poverty who is the one suffering due to this. Its one thing not to have PV, it's another to have it installed and not switched on! Does this happen often? as we are picking up a lot of chatter in south Wales forums on this.

Shared Owners in Wales

Welsh Govenment have a consultation open over the summer holidays, so very easy to miss. It concerns remediation costs for building safety etc. inc a lot of complex rules on who is liable and caps on costs, service charges etc. There is a section on shared ownership.
TPAS Cymru are reading the whole consultation in detail and will reply on behalf of residents, leaseholders/shared owner etc (we got your back!) but if you are a shareowner in Wales, I'd love to have a quick chat on some of the detail - David W, TPAS Cymru. (if you can use the message feature and we can arrange a chat, email exchange etc) - diolch yn fawr.

Renters and G98 DNO notification for plug-in solar

If you are a renter and get a plug-in kit - can you submit the G98 yourself, or does it need a landlord agreement? Would they get notified? On conventional PV, our understanding is that the tenant can't claim any SEGs without the landlord's MCS Certificate and G98 approval, but trying to understand plugin ?

Any thought much appreciated.

PS As a Welsh tenant support organisation, we are hosting a large roundtable of tenants and social landlords in 2 weeks to try and get a common approach to PluginSolar to allow tenants to benefit whilst keeping social landlords happy. If of any interest to this group, I can post observations after.

Borrow a Thermal camara from the library!!

In case you missed it, Cardiff Library Service now allows you to borrow a thermal image camera from 22 locations across the city. Seriously, you need to borrow one to check your home for drafts, damp etc - I was honestly amazed at what I found when I borrowed one. https://youtube.com/shorts/aP7ECAydyIg
