Got a Job in DTLA! Looking for Neighborhood Recommendations
Hey y'all,
I'm m26, and I just got a job on the west side of DTLA (S Beaudry Ave and 4th street). I've lived in SoCal for about 7 years now (Long Beach, La Mirada, Buena Park), so I'm not totally new to LA.
I spend a lot of time in Echo Park, Silver Lake, and the Arts District, so those are the first areas I've been considering. My ideal setup would be
- Less than 20 minutes bike ride to work, or I can walk to work (I do have a car, but I would love to be able to walk/bike to work)
- Lively area with people around my age
- Cafes/bars/restaurants around the area
- Walkable areas with street life and character
My budget is flexible, but rn it's around $2k/month for either a studio or a 1br. Is that realistic for those areas, or am I underestimating prices?
Also curious if you guys can recommend other neighborhoods around this area, like Chinatown, historic core, Westlake, or Filipino town?
Also curious about people's experience living in DTLA high-rises vs more traditional/smaller apartment buildings, and would appreciate any advice for people who work in DTLA and bike/metro/walk regularly.
Thank you for taking the time to read this!
