The Last of Us designer believes Naughty Dog's release structure is unsustainable as they witness waste, scope creep and siloed teams across the games industry

Oh man, I'm BUZZING with schadenfreude. Not sure why, but I just found this quote from (former ND Designer) Benson Russell absolutely brimming with snark (also hilarious, ofc):

>When asked if Naughty Dog’s current release structure is sustainable for the studio, Russell responded promptly: “No. Absolutely not,” he said. “They’re one of the key stakeholders that get PlayStation[s] sold, right? So, when you think about it, they have not put an original IP out on this platform. The only thing they’ve done is The Last of Us [Remake].”

Mmm, can't wait to see Intergalactic crash and burn, with Druckmann at the helm.

I think I'm starting to figure things out.

It's pretty rare for me to see actual good takes with regards to the Fireflies vis-a-vis Joel and Ellie at the hospital on Reddit, so it's refreshing to see Part II Stans get put in their place. It's honestly so bizarre that this common-sense take is such a rare one on Reddit, for a platform with users that pride themselves on being apparently progressive!

This is what I mean when I say a lot of the Stans are simply soapboxing and somehow choosing Part II as their vehicle of choice to virtue signal, when in fact I would argue it is ANYTHING but progressive! The morals and values (especially Abby's) are just so pitch black that it's actually mind-blowing anyone who labels themselves as progressive would throw themselves behind someone who is the very embodiment of what they should hate (the absolute disregard of consent being a recurring theme with the Andersons for example).

But the last screenshot says it all. It's not that they don't know Abby isn't objectively wrong; it's that the only way for anyone to take her side is to view things ENTIRELY from Abby's own selfish perspective.

That's it, that's the root of it all. That is why EVERY TIME a shill comes over, they have to reiterate the "both sides", "different perspectives" nonsense. They have to say "from Abby's perspective she is justified"!

Yeah, no shit?! Of COURSE Abby would think she's justified; she's a narcissistic, hypocritic sociopath with psychopathic tendencies!

Sorry, I know I tagged this as "Happy", and I am, but my god, it's become more and more clear to me that the Part II Stans have no legs to stand on, unless they specifically only take the villain's PoV, which is another layer of irony in a story that they laud as highlighting "different perspectives" 🙄 /rant.

Capcom's team-led development approach vs ND's Haus of Druckmann

Came upon this interesting article which got me thinking: is this why Capcom's flagship series (such as Resident Evil) is generally very favourably viewed upon despite having so many entries in the series?

Seeing as though it only took a sequel after Straley's departure for Druckmann to declare himself dictator, fill ND with yes(wo)men (most notably Gross) and force his contrived narrative and vision for the story, and as a result, Part II was so divisive, alienated at least half of the TLOU fanbase and basically doomed the franchise as a whole by The Hitchhiker.

I guess teamwork really does make the dream work.

The Boys Series Finale

Absolutely no spoilers here, but I'm gonna put my thoughts in spoilers so as to not even allude to anything.

>!Right off the bat, I'm just going to say the whole of the last season was lacklustre (barring perhaps A-Train's redemption arc), and seeing the finale get roasted in the TV and The Boys subs is funny. However, as bad as it was, it was somehow still better than the writing of Part II, even down to its themes of "revenge is bad". By the end, I felt the villains mostly got their comeuppance, and there wasn't any last minute, asspull redemptions (barring perhaps one or two characters). The villains stayed despicable until the end and mostly got their comeuppance.!<

I think this might resonate with a lot of us on this sub who hated the story of Part II, that's all. I can only foresee the absolute bloodbath that will ensue following the finale of the TLOU TV series if the ending stays true to Part II.

Of particular note:

>When asked whether the team anticipated controversy, she said, “Oh, yeah…Most of the studio is like, ‘Really? You’re going to – well, spoilers, right?’”

>Cerlana confirmed that the disagreement wasn’t limited to a handful of voices. “I think the studio is pretty split on [the] outcome of what happens,” she said. “Yes, absolutely. It was controversial internally too.”

Finally, this came as no surprise and extremely funny/telling to me:

>The former Naughty Dog artist acknowledged a certain narrative strength in the decision. “I guess if there’s one positive from it, I guess you can say the story is definitely not forgettable, right?” she mentioned. “You definitely remember the story.”

My god, if the ONE good thing someone could say about the story is that it's "not forgettable", you already know it's an extremely bad story. You'll find this sentiment, that Part II was a "masterpiece" by virtue of it simply being "unforgettable", being constantly parroted by Part II Stans and Druckmann cultists.

Next time the holier than thou Part II Defenders come and claim that people who hate the story are the "loud minority", just scoff and see them for the pretentious hypocrites that they are.
