What is your understanding of the origin of Bulgaria's Turks? Assimilated Bulgarians or Ottoman era internal migrations?
This has been a recurring theme of discussion regarding the two Turkish enclaves in southeastern and northeastern Bulgaria. Historically, when the state had a position on this discussion it was that those people are Bulgarian-Muslims. Do majority of Bulgarians still believe this? I have seen all kinds of explanations including both extremes as well as third positions such as Bulgarian Turks being Cumans/Pechenegs etc.
Please also explain the thought process behind your belief.
