If your compassion, patriotism, empathy, or ability to recognize the humanity in others is partisan then you don't actually possess any of these things.

It's amazing this needs to be said but it really really does these days.

If you can't see how that's a problem or try to respond with some nonsense about "tolerating the intolerable" then YOU are the problem.

I have loved my country since the day I was born. I will always love it, no matter what. My country is more than just a government or who's in charge of it.

I love my countrymen and women and always will, regardless of how they vote.

I disagree with and honestly find stupid the politics of many Redditors. I think almost all of their views and ideas are delusional and based on having no real life experience, yet I can engage them in a conversation if they're willing and can look past their politics and get to know them beyond that. I'm always willing to break bread with people, even those who think they hate me or misunderstand me or what I'm about. And that goes for both sides. Being an independent who doesn't toe any party line has made me simultaneously be viewed as way too far left by the right and somehow right wing by the far left who live in an echo chamber.

If you can't say the same, ask yourself what the hell is wrong with you.

The huge US political divide is being caused by a mass delusion of suburban raised progressives and leftists.

This isn't even really an opinion at this point. I've noticed it for many years.

Reddit is the perfect example of this but it's all over the internet and in every city or popular suburb you venture into.

We have a mass epidemic of delusion among progressives and leftists raised in the suburbs.

They are obsessed with talking about socioeconomic inequality but don't have the slightest bit of a clue what they're talking about. They're obsessed with social justice but don't have the slightest bit of a clue what they're talking about. All of their views and ideas in this regard come from reading things and the words of people who they don't actually understand.

It's also a big part imo of what's causing the anti white hatred to reach the levels it has among a far too large segment of the black community. A lot of heavily black communities across the country that haven't had many if any white people living in them or even visiting them regularly for a long time suddenly got a huge influx of the most oblivious and privileged white saviors moving into their communities and taking over with their money. It's been going on for over a decade now, and accelerating rapidly in every city where it's happening. This has caused the kind of infuriating interactions that could definitely cause racist views among black people who hadn't to that point encountered many white people in their neighborhoods in any kind of real way.

A lot of these progressives are well meaning but they've been in such a bubble their entire lives that they really just don't understand any of the concepts they're so passionate about at all and can't seem to just listen when people tell them truths they don't want to hear or that their ideas and saviorism aren't needed. They also can't seem to rectify the fact that they're gentrifying the very communities they claim to care about let alone stop doing so.

What makes them especially (largely unintentionally) toxic though is the fact that they've become so wrapped up in Democrat ideology and partisanship and team politics that they genuinely believe anybody calling them out or disagreeing with their white savior ideas must be a Trumper or somebody who doesn't actually know what's best for them.

They're like children who can't handle their bubble being popped and can't seem to grow out of their need to be catered to and be listened to and impress people. The fact that everywhere they've been, from their upbringing to college to their white or pink collar workplace and eventually their gentrified neighborhoods has been full of almost exclusively people like them really doesn't help matters.

And they are the base of the Democratic party that has been catered to ever since Obama's second term and the people who are getting into politics now, whether as leftists or progressives. This means they're increasingly the ones influencing and holding power in this country and controlling politics at every local level and increasingly nationally.

It's not possible for people like that to not cause division because they genuinely think they know what's best for everybody else. I really don't see how this country heals until they get over themselves and get a massive reality check.

Partisan politics and division will always exist but only one party is genuinely convinced of their own benevolence and the fact that everything they do is for everybody else's own good.

I've made my point. I'm done responding to comments on this post.

[RO] The Cafe

Sitting in the cafe, watching the city alive beyond the big windows. Watching the people walk by without stopping, as I sipped my refreshing cool drink. It's exactly what I need on a hot day like this, in my little escape from the sweltering June weather.

I noticed her walk through the door, like the answer to prayers I didn't even know I was making.  I was first drawn to her captivating eyes, as if they were beckoning me from across the room.

Her confident smile held a thousand secrets, and I wanted to know them all.  Her sundress hugged her magnificent curves in all the right ways, and all I could think about was how I would love to run my hands up and down her alluring body through the thin fabric.  How much I'd love to feel her kissable lips pressed against mine, and how much I'd love to explore every inch of her curves under that dress.

All I had to do was come up and talk to her.  She was giving me the signals.  All I had to do was act on them.  She smiled at me, and I knew I was in.

Soon I'd learn her secrets.  Soon I'd know her completely.  Soon.

I watched her order her coffee. She was confident and friendly. You can tell a lot about how a person treats wait staff and other service employees. She made small talk with the barista. Laughed and smiled. Beautiful and a good person, what a combo!

I thought of what I would say to her. Would I use a line? Would I compliment her? I decided it was best to just introduce myself and engage her in a normal conversation.

I wondered about what books she read. What interests her? What are the things that captivate this woman that has so captivated me? I felt an urge and a curiosity to know it all, and that is rare for me.

What should we do if she says yes? Should we go out for dinner? Should we get a drink and keep it casual? A cute lunch date? Something outdoors or more adventurous? Maybe I'd take her dancing? God I'd love to see the way she moves. I bet she's mesmerizing on the dance floor. She seems like the type of woman who knows how to let go and be free and just let the music move her, and I have always loved those rare women. They can make a man feel alive.

I wondered what her name must be. Something as unique and beautiful as her, I bet. Maybe she's named after a long passed relative, or a saint as is the tradition in many a Catholic household. Shoot, maybe her parents were hippies or new age and raised her to be this free.

I wondered what her story was. I've never seen her in this cafe before, and I'm here every day on my lunch break. It's close by the building, and I love their little sandwiches and refreshing homemade drinks on hot summer days like this.

Speaking of work, what time is it? I checked my phone. Oh crap! I'm thirty minutes late! Just then my phone rang. Yeah, they're pretty pissed right now. I better get back there before I lose my job because I was too busy striking up a conversation with this stunning and mesmerizing woman.

I guess it'll be another opportunity missed, another avenue unpursued.

I hope she's here again tomorrow.

Masters of the Universe is awesome.

I don't know if we can mention modern remakes of awesome '80s movies here but this felt like the right place to talk about it. If I'm mistaken, feel free to remove it.

Anybody who loved the cartoon or 1980s movie should see this one. It's not exactly the same but it ultimately stays true to the entire spirit of the show and movie and doesn't stray from that. The only difference is Skeletor is a cross between the badass villain he was in the movie and the joke he was in the cartoon. It's ultimately the same characters you loved and the same basic story you loved. Can't recommend it enough.

I miss the Young Adult Male movies from the 90s and 2000s.

A lot were stupid but some were well written and introspective. I'm not talking just general guy movies but a sub genre of them from that time, almost a coming of age movie but for adults. It was a varied sub genre, too. Some were romance movies. Some were sex comedies. Some were serious dramas but they all had a common theme.

The common theme in every one of these movies was the struggle between the main character's integrity and morals compared to their friends or acquaintances and their desire to get ahead in life and have fun and meet somebody they want to be in a relationship with.

I recently had a binge of a few of these movies and forgot how much I loved them growing up and how good some were. Back when even existentialist movies with a main character who had morals and integrity were an escape rather than a lecture from Hollywood or an example of how much smarter than everybody else the writers think they are.

Anybody else love FYE?

That store was so huge and popular back in the day. One of my favorite annual Christmas gifts was an FYE gift card.

There are still a few in my general area but they're too far for me to waste my time traveling to.

I couldn't find a pic from the late '90s but this was the exact design my local FYE stores had then. Except I think the exterior was more wood than stone.
