Is Database Analyst to Network/Security side of IT possible?

I accepted a role as a Database Analyst that deals with operating on SQL and Powershell. I am currently studying for the Net+ and aspire to break into the more Systems/Network Admin side of IT.

I am grateful for my new role but was wondering a this type of pivot would be possible? My doubt is due to me not having a professional Network experience outside of home projects and assuming I will pass the Net+ soon.

I am still steadfast on the Networking/Security side of IT, would I have to apply for IT Technician jobs first just to get Networking experience? Or, would a lateral jump to Sysadmin be possible?

Is my job IT? If so, what tier and which roles can I apply to going forward?

Hi all. Hope all is well. My apologies if this is the wrong sub as I did not have karma for ITCareerQuestions. I have a BS in Info Systems & Technology. My current role is a Systems Technician for a local school.

My duties include

  • Supporting and troubleshooting Student Info Systmes, Learning Management Systems
  • Managing statf account and permissions
  • Running/building queries, extracting datasets, generating reports, building dashboards
  • Troubleshooting system errors and assisting usrts with technical problems (via ticketing system)
  • Working with databases and web-based systens

There are more tasks listed but they can be lumped in with the previous listed tasks (and best to leave out privacy wise).

I was curious as to if im IT ane what tier would I be considered?

In addition, I am taking my Net+ soon and assiming I pass, what roles should I apply to next to eventually end in Systems Admin or potentially security?

Thank you all in advance.
