Risks from intubation after glottoplasty VFS?

Hi,

I‘m becoming more and more sure that I will need vfs, but one thing that I‘m afraid of is the risk of damage to the vocal chords from intubation. I‘m planning for FFS early next year and SRS later in 2027. For the future, a SRS revision may be necessary (this is planned from the start by the place where I‘m going to since they do function over aesthetics in the first round) and maybe BA.

On the other hand my greatest dysphoria by far is my voice, which is why I‘m sure I‘ll eventually do VFS. I‘d actually do it asap if it weren’t for the common suggestion to wait until after other surgeries. How big is the risk for damage from intubation here? I‘ve seen people do VFS and then have other surgeries after that, but I‘ve actually never heard of a case where the vocal chords/voice was damaged afterwards.

What would be the time frame after VFS before the next intubation to be safe? I‘ve read anywhere from 3 to 6 months.

My plan would be to go to Mevoc in Hamburg.

Feedback voice feminisation

Hi all,
I've been voice training for 2 years, 1.5 with a speech therapist and have been using my voice full time for 7 months. I feel like I know basically everything there is, I can independently control my pitch, vocal weight and size/resonance and trained my ear over 2 years to be able to discern it out of a recording.
I'm still unhappy with my voice though and unsure if it passes (I usually get gendered male when interacting with people). This isn't the best possible I can do with my voice, but also not far away from it and it is at least sustainable. In my day to day, my voice does sink down further than this on occasion and especially when I speak louder the vocal weight increases dramatically.
My main problem is first with the weight, which I have a lot of difficulty to keep down. This is basically close to the lowest pitch that is usable to me, without the vocal weight becoming overwhelming and the break in my voice (around G3, although I can push it down to between E3 and F3) making my voice unstable.
And second is brightness of the voice, which often feels like a trade off with the weight. I can improve it a bit, but that is more effort I have to layer on top and I'm just not there yet.

I'm seriously considering vfs now, although I honestly would like to avoid it if possible. I'm just unsure if vfs would help enough or if the negatives would outweigh the positives. Not dropping into the male range when doing basically anything but the permanently choreographed voice would reduce my mental load when speaking enormously and also maybe allow me to laugh again.
I'm also unsure on the effects of intubation, I have yet to do my FFS and SRS and I wouldn't want more intubation from surgery to damage my vocal folds if I had glottoplasty.
