I want to use a pokemon for my battle tower team with a specific egg move can only be learned within HG/SS. If I were to trade that Pokemon from HG/SS to platinum and play battle tower would that be considered “cheating”?
I’ve just reached another 100 win streak with this team and I am trying to predict failures before I lose it again.
Outrage + other self-damaging moves:
Lapras cannot set up under these condition, so Forretress must become a stall engine. Forretress can reliably get +6 evasion and set Toxic Spikes x2. Toxic Spikes provides an alternate win condition in addition to PP stalling. Ultimately, enemy team comp RNG will make or break this contingency, although it has worked for me so far. Worst case scenario, Lapras has priority speed with Ice Shards and can brawl it out if necessary. Not sure how else I can enhance Forretress’s win condition here. One thing I’ve considered, although this is highly sketchy, is giving Forretress Leftovers and replace Lapras’s item with a Sitrus Berry to cope with setup pressure.
Water Tanks + Water Absorb + Status healing:
Lapras can defeat just about every single Pokemon with Waterfall and Ice Shards, but it’s one weakness is Water Tanks WITH water absorb. Water tanks alone can be beaten with +6 ATK waterfall. Forretress projects Toxic as an alternate win condition, but this is not guaranteed. The only way to fail is if the opponent has water absorb (rng) AND is able to cure/evade becoming Toxic. That being said I have yet to lose to this, and for some odd reason Water Absorb is almost non existent in high streaks.
Any suggestions are welcome and I’m happy to defend the reasoning behind this team comp.
In my latest run in Battle Tower Singles I’ve been taking note of the abilities of opponents pokemon, and I’m not sure if it’s random or set but I’m noticing patterns with strategic implications.
Water Absorb is an ability that negates all water dmg. It is tough to deal with if your primary sweeper is a water type as you’re effectively locked out of water STAB. That being said, after Palmer 2 (battle #49) idk why but every single Water Absorb pokemon that I’ve encountered that has access to another ability has had that OTHER ability, NOT water absorb.
ie. Lapras has access to Water Absorb and Shell Armor. I’ve encountered about 3 or 4 Lapras and not one of them had Water Absorb.
ie. Poliwrath has access to Water Absorb and Damp. I’ve encountered it twice and both times, no water absorb.
Is this luck or set? I know the opponents’ pokemon moves/items are apart of preset teams, but what about abilities? If Water Absorb is virtually non-existent past Palmer 2 the implications are big for water STAB sweepers.
This is probably the most consistent team I’ve ever used. It neutralizes basically all tower hax they can throw at you.
Focus Sash -> stealth rock
Focus Band -> toxic spikes
1HKO -> Sturdy/Substitute
Random Crits -> Shell Armor
Having toxic spikes as an alternate win condition really comes in clutch if Lapras goes up against Water/Ice tanks. With speed control you can spam Substitute to stall long enough for the Toxic to do all the work.
It’s not exactly the easiest team to acquire, but worth it.
Which one is the superior entry hazard setter in the context of Battle Tower Singles and why.
In my opinion, Skarmory is better because:
0.25 resistance against bug type is super nice with a psychic type Trick Scarf lead. Megahorn and X-Scissor STAB becomes a non issues.
Also, Roost + Lum Berry > Rest + Lum Berry.
That being said, Ice neutral sucks, and lightning weakness has lost me games, both of which Forretress is superior in defensively.
This Rhyperior tanks my +6 Atk Waterfall TWICE, roars my sweeper away, and then has the AUDACITY to tank two waterfalls after I permanently blind it with Skarmory.
