For those who have left a stable job during economic uncertainty for a better one – how did it work out for you?

29M site manager in the construction industry. I’ve been in this role for over three years now but I feel like my progression in this company is coming to a halt. The role has been great for my growth, keeps me stimulated and the company is fairly good to work for, however I’m nearing an age where I need to make more money and that isn’t something I can obtain here, nor any opportunities for the next step in my career. I really appreciate the opportunities I’ve been given, but I feel like I’m starting to look elsewhere and it’s planted a seed in my head that is starting to affect my life. My partner and I have plenty of money saved, however I feel like I’m living in constant fear with what is going on in the world at the moment. I want to be able to make a step towards advancing in my career, but I’m unsure if it’s a stupid decision given there’s a constant debate that the construction industry is going to come to a halt and a recession is near.

Has anyone else been conflicted in this situation and made the leap? Did it work out for you or did you regret ever leaving a company that was stable and maintained a safe routine? Was the grass really greener on the other side?
