Need advice before getting a dog
So recently, I’ve been seriously considering getting a puppy. But after doing some research, I have to ask: is it even worth it? Not just getting a puppy, but getting a dog in general.
I’ve read so many posts that make getting a dog sound like such a miserable experience. Some people are literally telling others to never get a dog, like, NEVER. And whenever I find a post from someone who had a good experience, the response is always, “I was just lucky.”
So the most horrific experiences are normal, but having a decent experience is just “luck”? What am I even supposed to expect?
I know raising a puppy isn’t easy, and I’ve always expected the worst. But after reading many posts and articles, my idea of the “worst” just keeps getting worse and worse and worse.
I’ve always wanted a dog, but now I’m starting to second-guess myself because it honestly doesn’t sound like it’s worth it. I’ve never seen a post talking about how getting a dog changed someone’s life in a positive way. Every single post I find is negative.
Also at what point do you become ready to get a dog?
Edit: Thank you all for the comments!!! Although I didn't respond to the comments, I did read them and they helped me greatly, so thank you. I have a lot of free time but not 24/7, and I have the money, so maybe I'll get an older dog.
