Glamping in Southern Washington State
Booked a unit with electricity and running water. Cooked outside, s'more on a peanut butter cookie was fire, wild roses along the Lewis River perfumed the area, hiked through a lava cave, 10/10
I've been solo camping for 12 years - mostly at developed campgrounds, e.g. state / county / national forest / DNR campgrounds. National parks are full of generators and screaming children IMO so I usually find a nearby campground managed by a different agency.
I'd like to expand into dispersed camping but like to go for day hikes and am worried about coming back to all my stuff being stolen - and being totally alone without nearby campers or a camp host in case someone comes along with nefarious intentions.
I'd also like to do solo backpacking but have a like/hate relationship with backpacking. I don't mind getting filthy and uncomfortable but I REALLY like to be clean and comfortable at the end of the day. Also uncomfortable with being TOTALLY alone out there, even though I love the idea of it.
Same Price: Exped Megamat Medium Duo vs. Big Agnes Captain Comfort Deluxe Long Wide Double
| Dimensions | R-value | Weight | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Exped | 72" x 41.3" x 4" | 8.1 | 7 lb. 5.8 oz. |
| Big Agnes | 78" x 52" x 5" | 9.9 | 11 lb. 2 oz. |
- Same price for these two.
- Foam on top feels similar.
- Exped's valves requires their specialized pumps.
- BA's valves works with a standard 2-way electric pump.
- Exped is lighter and has side handles, making it easier to move around.
- BA is heavier but has 1" more thickness, 6" more length, and 10" more width. The increased weight, bulk, and lack of handles makes it more difficult to move around.
