Husband is joining Greek Orthodox Church
Hello,
My husband and I have been attending a nondenominational church for about 10 years and have 2 kids (anges 7 & 9) and I’m guessing Youtube algorithm put him on to Orthodoxy. I’ve come to terms that I should let him go and convert freely. I moved stuff around for him to have his own room in case he wanted to set up his Icons and incense and orthodox books. He claims he has no intention of having icons or trying to convert the kids, but at the same time he says he’s 100% sure that it is the true church. There is no talking to him about clarifying topics on Orthodoxy because it all goes back to apostolic succession. I’ve looked deeply into fasting, which I agree you should do if you want, but the apostolic constitution says if you don’t do it, you are an anathema and it has to be done on Wednedays and Fridays. He claims that Matthew 6:16 is the reason it’s on those days which makes no sense. He will just say to have faith in the way the church does things because of apostolic succession. It seems like every parish does fasting as a customized plan for people, so if it is tradition why is everything so ambiguous. His priest said our marriage is not valid and he should wait to convert. I’m tired of feeling like I am in a church history class to try and understand Orthodoxy. Did anyone have a similar situation or advice on how to proceed? I am giving him space now, since it’s been a month since my life got turned upside down from one day to the next (had no idea he was looking into Orthodoxy) Thank you!
