YOSAR EMT & normal park job?

Hello, I’m not entire sure I understand the system of YOSAR volunteering and having a normal park job? I’m asking if volunteering would take all my time like a normal job or if you could balance it out by working a normal job when you’re not called out or how that would work?

I’m a 20yo EMT college student with 4 months of experience so far on a private ambulance company usually working IFT. I’m looking into more programs and certs that’ll get me more qualified for YOSAR. YOSAR or just working at Yosemite with my career field is a great goal of mine I’m working towards. I’m wondering what else I should be looking into. I think I’ve got a great dig at it with my internship at my local fire station where my superintendent has had some experience working at Yosemite with the CCC. Maybe I really will take that route.

2 months in

Hello, I‘m two months in as an IFT EMT, pretty new I think, as well as my city’s waterpark lifeguard that actually takes their positions seriously. I have a couple ideas as I’ve been collecting many perspectives. I don’t need definitive answers, just more perspective and communication.

I was told of city fire stations’ BLS still doing IFT work? Do we have to become paramedics for emergencies? To which I’ve been trying to plan out what I’m going to do throughout these years as I attain my associates in Fire Technology, Emergency Management, General Education, Paramedic’s certification, and then follow through with my bachelors in Fire Technology.

I’m looking into a lot of different work coming across: dispatch positions, ER Tech, CAL FIRE on an engine, all the volunteer programs like city fire explorers or animal rescue rangers. I’m really looking at all I can get. I’m also looking into all the different certifications like the ICS and NIMS so far.

This summer I’m going to take it easy with a health class since my two jobs didn’t allow time for the paramedic prep course. I know, my friends gave me looks too, but I think these jobs are helping me look more into my community and see how I can help my younger siblings out when they need guidance growing up. Though I’ll also be watching what everyone else I’ve met with what they’re doing or have been doing. I also wanted 911 experience before I went into Paramedicine, but maybe I made a mistake from what I’ve been told so far.

I’m currently thinking of swapping my IFT for a “better“ EMT job, ER Tech at my city’s hospital, or a dispatch position. Though for the dispatch, only after I master what I learn from the job, which doesn’t feel too far. I’m grateful for the work, moreso than most I think, just because it was nice landing on something soft after a semester put me through it. I think dispatch will help me actually keep in mind emergencies and put protocols into work, oiling the engine.

Also, let me know if you find my attitude or what I say as annoying. I like understanding what other people think, it won’t tank me or anything.
