How safe is a dental for a 14 year old cat?
Hi folks, I have a 14 year old with inflammatory issues (IBD, pancreatitis/triaditis which is managed with steroids and diet). He's almost died from it. He gets severely stressed at the vet even with gabapentin.
The vet has recommended a dental. His teeth aren't great but they're not atrocious, and 14 is old for a cat. His bloodwork is good but again he's 14, which is the age our other cats (3!!) have died from cancers etc. He doesn't look super healthy in part because of thr steroids.
Is it worth putting him through this stress, given that (a) it might flare up his issues or (b) he's of that age where time is running out? Our much younger cat just had a dental and the anesthetic/procedure and recovery was not a walk in the park.
Any thoughts or advice is appreciated.
