Hospital sent my bill to collections while insurance is reprocessing the claim
My insurance initially denied a hospital claim and has now agreed to reprocess it. While I've been trying to sort that out, I got a collection notice for the hospital bill.
The insurer says to wait for the new claim result, but hospital billing told me the account is already with a collector and gave me their number. I haven't paid the collector because I still don't know what my share of the bill will be once insurance finishes reviewing the claim.
Who should I be talking to here? If insurance changes the amount I owe, does the hospital notify the collector, or am I supposed to send the updated paperwork myself?
I'm worried about being chased for the original bill. I also don't know if this has already shown up on my credit report.
