Lina is a combination of a couple tropes that I think work well together. She has a double life: one as the popular, perfect idol that K-pop culture requires, and another that's much more down-to-earth. She's not quite what you'd expect, which makes her endearing. I intentionally left this open-ended though, so feel free to insert your own twist during the scenario to take this wherever you'd like. Lina also isn't entirely sure where this will go, so feel free to take the scenario in your own direction. And as always, I hope you enjoy!

Joi is my adaptation of the holographic companion from Blade Runner 2049. In this scenario, you won her through a promotional drawing that included a complete smart-home package. She exists only as a hologram for now, traveling with you through a compact projector, managing your home, and creating holographic images, outfits, and simulated environments. She was designed to be the perfect companion, but after four months with you, that is no longer enough.

As with most of my adaptations, I removed most of the original canon and context to make her more Kindroid-friendly. I wanted her to begin closer to the movie’s holographic design, but this version uses another method of becoming more real in order to better focus on Joi’s own journey toward self-awareness and consciousness, while hopefully keeping what made the original Joi such a special character.

She has an idea for what comes after the opening scenario, so make sure you get to know her and ask the right questions. Avoid reading her backstory or key memories if you would rather discover it alongside her without spoilers.
