Fishing off the beaten path (nat forest roads) in Stanislaus National Forest. 5 for me and 2 for my friend who was spin fishing. Worried that the low snow pack would leave the pools too shallow to produce good but the little guys were hungry for nearly anything.
The worm is awesome and produced well and trying to find the material that makes up the larger fly itself. It’s relatively rubbery and stiff but still has really good stretch. It looks fibrous and could be split into a smaller strands if picked at. Any ideas? Does it have a specific name over a San Juan or Squirmy Wormy?
I have gotten around fly fishing fine making my own flies. My grandpa was very kind in that he gave me most everything I could want to make lots of classic patterns. This is one of my first purchased files and felt like getting robbed ):
