Respect Wolf! (Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice)
####"How many times have you died and come back for me? Once? Twice? Three Times? Or perhaps a number so large it cannot be counted?"
##"As it was for the purpose of defending my Lord, the number does not matter."
Amidst a battlefield, in a land ravaged by the Ashina Clan’s conquest, a young boy orphaned by the surrounding war stands alone. Found by the shinobi Owl, he would be taken under his wing and trained in the ways of the Shinobi. With excellent tutelage from Owl, he became a fierce warrior, and soon was entrusted to protect young Lord Kuro, the Divine Heir of the Dragon’s Heritage. During a raid on Kuro’s home, Wolf would defend it well, and successfully fend off against the assailants; however, would also be fatally wounded after the battle. With no other options, Kuro would grant Wolf the blessing of the heritage, giving him the ultimate power of resurrection. Years past, the land of Ashina is once again in the midst of a deadly conflict, and with Kuro being targeted due to his heritage, Wolf would lay down his life to defend him; no matter how many it took.
#Immortality
- As Wolf was dying, Kuro gave him his blood, granting him the power of immortality to save his life
- Emma states this is a power due to Kuro’s Divine Dragon Heritage, and describes Wolf as “no longer confined to the rules of our world”
- In practicality, if Wolf dies in combat, he is able to instantly return to life to continue the fight
- Game mechanic-wise, Wolf’s revives are denoted by the symbols by his health. Wolf can always revive once instantly, but after achieving enough death blows, he can get another revive to use. This can happen for a maximum of three revives
- If Wolf uses up all of his resurrections, he will still respawn at the last Sculptor Idol he was at
- Repeatedly resurrecting causes the power to “overflow”, inflicting a disease known as dragonrot to people across the world at random
- The Dragon’s blood that fuels the resurrections only has a certain amount of power to it. If the power is exhausted, it will instead draw on the lifeforce from other people, which causes the dragon rot
- The only way to cure it is to “give back what was taken”, by offering a Dragon’s blood droplet to an idol with a special charm
