What is next for my 12yo (bday in March) after 2 years in the minors?

My son had never touched a ball or glove (or watched a game or knew much of anything about baseball) before he started playing at 11. First year was in the minors and he struggled but you could see him improving. Last year at 12, somehow he was in the minors again (I dont know why, so don't ask me. his skill level was still pretty low and I didnt mind another year to develop with younger kids) and really improved a lot despite a coach that routinely made him want to quit. So, since I believe he cannot play in the majors (he turns 13 in March), what comes next? I did not think he could play minors last year, so maybe I am wrong and majors is an option?

My son is 12, this is his 2nd season in little league. Before last season he had never touched a baseball. I am not into the sport. We shoot hoops, toss the football, but baseball was never a thing. He has come a long way. He has been one of the better hitter this season on his minor league team. we play the same 3 teams every game. We beat up on two of them, but the braves have our number.

Saturday we lost to the braves again 10-7. My son and the other 12yo had rough nights, not getting any hits. AFter the game the coach calls them out in front of the team, saying they should be embarrassed that theyre 12 and losing to 8yos. Am I wrong to be pretty pissed about it? I dont mind constructive critiques of his play, things that can help him improve. Just just making fun of them to the entire team seems out of line to me. I was going to let him quit, but he wants to stick it out. He understands hes new to the game and has progressed well in just a year and a half.
