The T-25 Semi-Automatic Rifle
“Chaos and shockwaves spread from Polkag all across the world…”
“Alliances are put to the test, threats exchanged, and armies are put on hold…”
“In the north, the Grand Duke of Chifk is trying to calm the situation with his equal. The Monarch of Arin…”
“But it is all in vain. The situation is out of control.”
“War is unavoidable…”
The T-25 rifle was Chifk’s next step in standard infantry arms development. Designed in 1920, the T-25 was designed to give soldiers more firepower than a bolt-action could ever give, while also attempting to create a “machine rifle”. As many of its designers quoted.
The T-25 was not requested by the Fascist Party of Chifk. Matter of fact, the Lowern Company had made it in an attempt to sell it to a foreign nation. A cheap, bulky, semi-automatic rifle. Most nations at the time were still using bolt-actions, and were desperately trying to modernize. Chifk, could not allow their enemies, and even allies, to progress. It was inconceivable that anyone could be better than Chifk, and so, Chifk adopted the rifle.
During its short, limited testing, it was found that the rifle did poorly in muddy conditions, its heavy trigger pull was not received well, its wood would warp after repeated fire, its bulkiness made it awkward to operate in tight positions, and the 7.92mm Muller round was said to cause the rifle to kick harder than its original prototypes suggested. But, its sights were well received. 1/5 score. Almost immediately, the Lowern Company had to outsource its production of T-25 rifles to other companies. Inland or abroad.
This caused a huge varying amounts of quality. With the rifles produced by the Lowern Company being some of the highest in quality, to those made by the lowest companies typically being some of the worst weapons the military would ever have in its arsenal. Some ranged from the original 5.5 pound trigger, to a 35 pound trigger. The springs made by cheaper companies were inconsistent. To the heavy sturdy springs, to the light and snappy springs that would break after a single shot. Different companies would rifle the barrel improperly. By either using the incorrect tools, or just free-handing it. The production of the T-25 was a mess.
In 1927, the Great War began. The president of Grimla was shot and killed by assailants in Polkag, aiming to keep the Third alliance from ever uniting with the Second alliance. Chifk, in an attempt to prevent war, contacted the leader of the Great Powers alliance. Arin. Chifk and Arin in the past were once united, under the banner of an Empire. However, when the monarchy fell this allowed the two nations to break from the rule. The Nation that had harbored the monarchy, Chifk. And the nation that had gained freedom. Arin. Chifk was a mashup of different cultures and traditions. However they mostly spoke Arinish (Spanish). Arin, had no cultures, stripped from them by colonial rule. They, only spoke Arinish. Their native tongue destroyed. The two began to bargain with eachother during the meeting, everything seemed to be going good. The Grand Duke of Chifk and the Monarch of Arin seemed to be… getting along…
However, near the end of the meeting, Arin had asked that Kislan not be touched by Chifk. Around the same time, Kislanian legionaries crossed into Chifk. The Grand Duke shot out an expletive at the Monarch of Arin, letting him know that if Kislanian soldiers continued their advance into Chifk, it would mean war. The Monarch stood firm, looking down at the Grand Duke as he backed away from the meeting table, his advisers handing the Grand Duke a declaration of war against Chifk.
Millions of Chifkan men and Women signed up in droves, looking to defend their nation against the traitorous Kislanian and Arinish armies who would seek to destroy their homeland, and to enjoy the adventure that would occur, as this was the first war to happen in over 100 years. However, supplying the T-25 to these new soldiers was difficult. Despite the fact that factories all across Chifk were working around the clock to get the T-25 rifles into the hands of soldiers, they were only able to produce so many. Although a majority of Chifkan forces had been trained and deployed with the T-25, Chifk was now having to rely on older equipment to substitute for the new rifle. Older T-79 needle rifles and the T-87 Rolling Block rifle.
While the Kislanian legions were being held back, Chifk had to engage a brutal naval war against Arin. With soldiers fighting over small islands in the middle of the ocean. One such battle was the battle for ‘Kahi hanau o Kristo’. A vital island with an airfield that would decide the future of the Naval War between Chifk and Arin. The island itself wasn’t that big, however its airfield allowed 1st generation and 1/2 generation bombers to take off and strike anything in a decent radius. Aswell as fighters and cargo/paratrooper planes. It was vital that Chifk take the island before Arin, Holin, and Polskg aircraft could reach the island via transport ships. It was defended by a force of 10,500 soldiers, 9000 Arin, 500 Holin, and 1000 Polskg soldiers. The island was littered with forts, machine gun outposts, and artillery batteries repurposed for anti ship use. 11,534 Chifkan soldiers were to participate in the landings. The battle plan was simple, Chifkan soldiers were to quickly move into the island and take the airfield, next, they would fortify positions and wait until reinforcements arrived with tanks, and then the advancement would continue with naval support. It was foolproof, and the soldiers to be sent in were all equipped with the T-25.
On 9/30/36, the landings began. The landing craft sped towards the beach, some of them converted merchant ships to actual landing craft. This mix in quality caused a lot of the landing crafts to be sunk by heavy machine gun fire from the beach defenses. Those who survived and managed to land on the beach itself found it to be a relative cakewalk. The heavy MG’s were unable to aim as far down as they needed to, and with the rest of the beach defenders rushing back to base to get more support and reinforcements, the lone MG crews with little in terms of arms, were forced to defend as best as they could. Some ripped their MG’s off the tripods and had it positioned to where it could be aimed at the invading Chifkan forces, while others ditched their MG’s for their lackluster equipment. Despite the fact that the standard issue rifle of the Arin, Holin, and Polskg army was the T-9, the Island had recently lost a majority of those rifles in a storm, and were forced to rely on older, much more outdated rifles. Such as T-7 Gate Rifles, and even older Hentony Muskets that were left over on the island by its previous inhabitants of pirates during the late era of the 1600’s.
The beach defenders fought desperately, however, their firepower was unmatched compared to the T-25. The sheer volume of fire that the T-25 could dish out compared to the outdated arms of the defenders was staggering, and the cartridge it used made short work of most people on the other end. It was reported that during the initial push onto the beach, that a lone Chifkan soldier took aim with his Lowern T-25 rifle and let off a singular round, managing to hit the mortar-man who was aiming the mortar, causing his body to jerk pulling the mortar with him as he fell, just as a round was lobbed into the tube. The round shot straight up, and destroyed the mortar position, causing a chain reaction of shells going off, destroying the road next to them. With this short victory, the Chifkan invaders hoisted up their flag to signal to the ships that the initial landings were a success and that more reinforcements could come. However, just as the flag was raised, the reinforcements from the defenders base had arrived. Armored cars sped down the road as fast as they could, with transport trucks well behind them. The Chifkan soldiers prepared themselves as the convoy sped towards them, its Armored cars turrets aiming towards them. And then, it happened. As the transport trucks stopped, the Armored Cars opened fire to give cover to their advancing men. The Chifkan soldiers fought desperately to hold the position, if they could hold out long enough for the reinforcements to land, they would be able to force the defenders to retreat for the night. Although the defenders had more men, the Chifkan soldiers were able to dish out more firepower, even with the armored cars providing fire support. At 7:54 PM, the Chifkan reinforcements arrived and forced a retreat, even managing to destroy the armored cars via makeshift fire bombs. allowing the Chifkans to meet up, re-organize and entrench in their positions. However, it also gave the defenders time to do the same.
10/2/36, two days after the initial landings, Chifk had made barely any progress. Failing to take the Airfield, even with superior numbers. The intelligence they had received was wrong, the airfield was not where it was supposed to be, matter of fact, it was on the other side of the island. Chifk could not afford another landing, especially with the war with the Kislan back home. Orders were given out via Morse code.[ - .- -.- . / - .... . / .- .. .-. ..-. .. . .-.. -.. / .- -. -.-- / -- . .- -. ... / -. . -.-. . ... ... .- .-. -.-- / .-. . - .-. . .- - / .. ... / -. --- - / .- -. / --- .--. - .. --- -. / --. .-.. --- .-. -.-- / - --- / -.-. .... .. ..-. -.-] ^TAKE THE AIRFIELD-ANY MEANS NECESSARY-RETREAT IS NOT AN OPTION-GLORY TO CHIFK^
It was a dire situation. Especially with the fact that the ANV-5 ‘INVICTUS’ had been sighted in the area, which caused all transport ships to cease resource shipments to the Chifkan forces on the island. However, orders were orders. Using what they had in limited resources and vehicles, the Chifkan forces were able to make one armored car, and one armored truck, being able to accomplish this by scrapping the destroyed armored cars and other broken pieces of metal laying around, aswell as using captured heavy machine guns for the armored car. 10/5/36, the Chifkan invaders began their second push into the island, using the armored car and truck to make staggering progress. Even managing to capture two Arinian light artillery pieces. Which gave the Chifkans an idea.
However, as the advanced continued forward, the many problems of the T-25 began to show. The heat and humidity of the island caused the wood to warp, and even crack. The heavy mud and sand would cause the weapon to jam catastrophically, either causing the bolt to snap, or getting stuck in the inaccessible areas of the weapon, where even disassembling it couldn’t reach. Even with these issues, Chifkan forces advanced further and further, until hitting a wall. The defenders had brought out tanks, specifically 1st generation. And even managed to get air support with bi-planes. Even if they were outdated at the time, they still were vital to the war. Especially when the opponent had no aircraft at all. This forced the advance to halt, allowing the battered defenders to re-group. Again.
Over four grueling months, the battle for the island raged on, both sides knew eventually one would have to give in. Neither wanted to do so. Both sides received word from their commanders to fight on till the last bullet, as re-supply was never going to happen. 2/15/38, both sides prepared their forces for the battle, that would bring their end. Over the four months, the Chifkan invaders had been given enough time to up-armor the armored car, giving it thicker armor, and replacing its machine guns with light artillery, to create a makeshift tank to deal with the defenders tanks, and converting the machine guns to anti-air use. However, on the other side of the island, the defending forces had been turning their artillery pieces into anti-tank pieces, to deal with the Chifkan Armored cars. A Chifkan soldier on the island by the name of Uria Martinez was objecting to the upcoming attack, instead wanting to have her fellow soldiers wait in their fox holes and defensives for the defenders to attack, so that way they take less losses. Her request was ignored by 2nd Chifkan Foreign army officer Naoya Ayanami, stating that her opinion was inferior to his based off of her gender, rank, and appearance. Instead, he had his forces fix bayonets, as their ammo was low due to zero resupply, and prepare for the final assault. On the defender’s side, their forces began to kit up. Fixing bayonets, reinforcing their helmets with scrap metal, strapping grenades to their chests as a final send off. Specifically, only the Polskgan forces did that last part. They viewed death in battle as the proper way of dying in a war. Surrender was unacceptable. However, they too were also low on ammunition.
The attack began on the same day around 6:00 PM. Just as the sun began to set. 1,300 Chifkans rushed out of their trenches to attack the defenders. The remains of the Arinian coalition of 1,287 charged out of their trenches to attack the invading forces. They met eachother on the middle of what was once a lush jungle, turned into a grey wasteland. The tanks rushed towards eachother, firing off shot after shot at eachother. The makeshift tank destroying the Holinian 1st generation tank, however shortly after being blown up by the makeshift anti-tank cannons. The Polskgan warriors were next, rushing into the lines of Chifkan infantry men and taking out as many as they could before being mowed down, their final acts of defiance was activating their chest explosives. The air assets were slowly shot down by the Anti-air machine guns, their pilots jumping out on fire, or when they were parachuting down, being shot by Chifkan marksman. However, the AA guns were destroyed by The Anti-Tank guns. A misfire occurred during the firing of an Anti-Tank gun, causing both cannons to explode. The rest of the Infantry engaged in brutal melee combat, and when their bayonets broke, they used their makeshift knives. And when their blades dulled, they used their hands. Those who still had ammunition were surrounded. Mauled.
At 6:21 PM, the battle was near its end. Out of the 2,587 participants in the battle. Only three ended up at the end of it. 1 Arinian. And 2 Chifkan. Maria Olivera, the Arinian. Uria and Naoya. The Chifkans. They stood on the beach where the initial landings had taken place. Maria and Uria stood there, watching eachother. Both of their Knives had broken, and both had a broken arm. Maria herself had been burnt by a Polskgan exploding next to her too early. Naoya came down to the beach and aimed his officers pistol at Maria, pulling the trigger but nothing came out. He too had run out of ammo. He tried to pull out his officers sword, but had forgotten that it had broken in the battle. He demanded that Uria help him kill the last Arinian, to fulfill her duty to take the island from the Arinian menace. To follow the orders handed to them. Maria begged the two to let her go, that the war for the island was over. There was nothing left to fight for. Naoya yelled at her to shut up, that she was worthless compared to him. Uria grew tired of his antics. He had gotten her comrades killed, he had ruthlessly ruined the mental state of the fellow women who had served her. He had caused all of this. And so, with whatever strength that she had, she gripped the foregrip of her rifle in her one unbroken hand, and began to beat on Naoya with it. And when the rifle broke, she grabbed a piece of steel stuck in her chest and began to stab into Naoya, her final act in her war. She stood up from the bloody mess on the sand and looked over to Maria, and walked over to her. Looking out into the sea, they saw a transport ship in the distance. A Chifkan transport ship. However, before long, a deafening roar came from the sea. The ANV-5 ‘INVICTUS’. It had let off its horn as it got close to the transport ship, it opened fire. Witnessing the scene, the two held hands and collapsed on the beach from their injuries. Uria herself had died from her wounds, the cut caused by the steel in her chest was unable to be stitched. Maria, lived. Adopting the Name of Ayanami, who she thought was Uria’s name after Arinian medics mixed up the identity cards between Naoya and Uria.
The two were picked up by an Arinian task force meant to investigate the silence on the island. They found Maria and Uria holding onto eachother on the beach. After they brought the two onto the ship and began to treat their wounds in any way they could, the task force buried the dead. Giving both Chifkan, and Coalition forces full military honors. Hoisting their flags on their respective grave yards.
After the war, Maria ‘Ayanami’ left her home country of Arin before its borders were permanently closed to a foreign country. Where she would spend the rest of her days in peace. However, only something that could be described as a miracle occurred. A Virgin birth. And thus, given her new home, and what she thought was Uria’s home. She gave her daughter a name from that land. Rei Ayanami. Who herself, would join the Armed forces. Specifically, the 5th Chifkan Foreign Legion.
(Hey guys, beanlord back again with another late post. New norm, no more churning out posts like a factory. Ignore the end of ya like. I don’t really care for it but, I felt like including it. Why? Callback to some of my older posts. I’ve done this before. Anyways, I did include a decent amount about the gun so. Hope you like it. Anyways, Peace giggity gang! Expect a new post sometime between here, and there!)
(P.s. also, I’d appreciate any feedback on the design. I plan on some more ‘Great War’ stuff. I’ve been meaning to do it. So now I’m doing it.)
