My Leslie 760 isn't grounded through the powercable, should it be?

I've got a Leslie 760 which has been modified by a previous owner to use a xlr connection for speed control, a line 1/4 jack for sound and a separate powercord.

The powercord in question is in rough shape (accidently rolled over a few times) and I want to replace it with a IEC connector so the cable can be detached.

When opening up the old powerplug I realised the grounding pin isn't connected to anything. I'm wondering if it should be? Would I be safe to replace it with a IEC C13 plug and just omit the grounding pin (basically just like it is now)... or would that be bad...

If no ground = bad, what should I connect the grounding pin to?

Any insight is appreciated.
