Today In Sikh History - Birth Anniversary of Sultan UL Quam Nawab Sardar Jassa Singh Ji Ahulwalia

Sardar Jassa Singh Ahluwalia was a prominent Sikh military leader during the Misl period and was elected Commander-in-Chief of the Dal Khalsa in 1748. He was later honored with the title of Nawab in 1754 after the passing of Nawab Kapur Singh. Born in 1718 in Ahlu village, Lahore District, he was raised with Sikh values and trained in Gurmat Sangeet under Mata Sundri Ji.

Jassa Singh survived both the Chota Ghallughara (1746) and Vadda Ghallughara (1762), where thousands of Sikhs were massacred. He played a major role in rebuilding Sikh power, defeating Ahmad Shah Abdali’s forces, and restoring Harmandir Sahib after its destruction. In 1783, alongside other Sikh leaders, he helped capture Delhi and hoisted the Nishan Sahib at the Red Fort.
