A/C dies during a heat wave [CA]

To clarify (I can't edit the post title) this is California, in the US.
Our AC unit, which is very old, stopped working yesterday. I replaced the filter and it still wasn't working. So yesterday evening my wife submitted a ticket through our property management company. Also, just to have a written record, I wrote an email to the company.
Because today is supposed to be so hot, I even called their emergency services line, and it said "invalid entry" for every option on their menu, so I couldn't talk to anyone or leave a message.
I then got on Yelp and requested quotes from a bunch of companies that said they could come out this AM, but they needed to hear from property manager, not tenants.

So this morning I called our rep and the vendor she spoke to doesn't have any availability until tomorrow. I told her that's not acceptable; their receptionist even acknowledged that we are experiencing "emergency" temperatures.

Our rep says that she only wants to deal with vendors that she knows, so someone doesn't try to rip them off, but it took more than a month of back and forth to get a badly leaking shower fixed, and I'm not about to go through that again. I'm tempted to just schedule with the 1 guy who said he'd come out even tho I'm a renter and then submit the service call fee for reimbursement.

The fact that their emergency line isn't working makes me feel like they've already dropped the ball once, so surely I've got some leveraged here, right?

EDIT: I agree with a lot of you, I was getting pretty hot under the collar (pun intended.) They're sending a vendor this afternoon and, all things considered, I'm quite grateful.

Too late, too late will be the cry...

I'm on my 3rd re-watch, and have come to A Landmark Story. (S01 e21) Every time I watch this episode, I'm struck by Moran's song as he's being led away after having killed a guard: "Too late, too late, will be the cry, when the woman with the bags passes by."
I've tried several times to find the source of this line, and the evidence is surprisingly scant.

One of the things that keeps coming up is the movie "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels." In the opening scene, Bacon (played by Jason Statham in his film debut) calls out while selling stolen goods, "too late, too late, will be the cry, when the man with the bargains passes by." Now, Jason Statham has previously been a street vendor; and I have seen at least 1 person from London say that they've heard that line many, many times in market areas.

(Regarding the song itself: it seems to be adapted from an old hymn.)

Additionally, Vinnie Jones plays a character named Victor Moran. One of his costars in Lock Stock was an actor named Nick Moran, who has gone on to be a successful director. So, it's a reasonable to surmise that Vinnie Jones had some input to the naming of his character as well as some of his lines.

(Additional fun facts: Vinnie Jones was a footballer before being cast in Lock Stock. Apparently the script said that the character "looked like English footballer Vinnie Jones." And he was was a pretty rough customer: he'd been imprisoned for beating up his neighbor and was only released a day before filming began.)

Fans of the Dead Zone: when did you (first) read it?

I read the Dead Zone maybe 4 years ago and was pretty disappointed. The villain was absolutely one King's most memorable (and that's saying something) and there were aspects that were interesting, but...
I'm not looking to get at all into specifics, but I felt like the twist would have been believable 15, 20 years ago. But given how dramatically American politics have shifted in the last decade or so, I simply couldn't get emotionally invested in the idea that the electorate could unite so quickly, even around such a seemingly black-and-white morally repugnant act.
Generally I'm very good at a willing suspension of disbelief, but given how all of the division is still ongoing, it just...really killed that book for me.
So, for fans: how long ago did you first read the book? I'm seeing a lot of fans of TDZ on here and I'm genuinely curious how current political strife has affected other people's read. (Again, I'm not interested in anyone's actual political leanings. I'm merely asking about how current political animosity is impacting a book that is about a politician.)

A female John Connolly?

I'm looking to expand my reading horizons and part of that will be reading more books written by women. I understand, of course, that this project would be undermined if I were simply looking for someone who writes just like my favorite authors but happens to be a woman. So help me get to know some women authors!
I love John Connolly's Charlie Parker novels. Part of what I love about those is that there is a genuine, though only vaguely defined, element of the supernatural; but I love ghost stories, cryptids, all of that stuff.
I also have been obsessed with Stephen King lately. I like that his characters are (mostly) fairly 3 dimensional and memorable.

(And before anyone suggests Shirley Jackson, I've already read a few of her stories and they were...fine.)

Best way to repair leather car seat?

See attached photos. I don't know if this matters but it's a 2016 Camry with heated seats. I'm hoping to keep driving this car for a long time so I'd like to get a decent repair done. Suggestions?

What is space became a conductor?

What would happen if the space between the sun and the earth suddenly became conductive? I'm really bad with this kind of stuff (thermodynamics?) so I don't know how to specify what I mean but let's say, for example, that the space suddenly became filled with an atmosphere similar to Earth's. How would that change the solar radiation that reaches us? How about if it became as conductive as, I don't know, copper?
