Had a seizure in the waiting room at urgent care. Went about as well as you can expect. :-/
Godddd. Okay. So one would expect a receptionist in healthcare to recognize and respond professionally to a seizure, right? I had a shit experience today at my local urgent care. I went there for something unrelated, and had a seizure while I was waiting to be called in.
I flagged a receptionist, said "hey, I'm starting to have a seizure," all calm like. She goes, "OH SHIT, oh no no no no no" and goes flapping off to get someone. Like. I know it's unsettling to see my head nodding uncontrollably and whatever, but I didn't lose consciousness or anything. It kinda made me feel like garbage, though I'm prolly being sensitive.
They ended up plunking my ass in a wheelchair (hospital policy) and leaving me alone in a room with the brakes locked, which. Also felt shitty and kinda scary? And they were like off to the ER, do not pass Go, do not collect two hundred dollars, whatever. I'm like guys. I have a neurologist. I had an EEG, we're waiting on its results. I had an MRI. I have a follow-up in nine days, where we'll prolly up my topomax. What the HELL is the ER gonna do that the neuro hasn't already done?? I've been there three times already and they didn't do a single thing.
They didn't even treat the thing I originally came in for.
Ugh.
Prolly gonna get diagnosed with epilepsy on my birthday... Yay :-/
Just, ugh. I meet with a neuro soon, and I'm dreading it. I've had quite a few seizures out of nowhere, two requiring ambulance rides (though I thought the lights and sirens were sorta overkill, lmao).
Things are rough, but we ball. 🏀
