📖 The Story
Xu Bai is stuck in an unwanted engagement to a psycho named Xiao Heng. After her father is labeled a traitor and killed, her family falls into poverty. Trying to escape the obsession her fiance has on her, she seeks protection from his Uncle Xiao Ling Xuan. Xu Bai ends up trapped in a dangerous struggle between men fighting for power and for her heart.

💭 My Thoughts
I love Wang Kai Mu and Wang Nan as actors, so I already had high hopes for this drama. Thankfully it delivered. Wang Nan played Xiao Heng’s instability so well that at times he genuinely made me uncomfortable. Meanwhile Wang Kai Mu absolutely nailed the flirtation and tension with Xu Bai. Their chemistry was honestly the strongest part of the drama for me.

⭐ The ML & Why He Works
Xiao Ling Xuan is ruthless and powerful, but what made him work for me was the contrast between his warlord exterior and the softer side he only shows to Xu Bai. He comes off cold and dangerous, yet he clearly cares deeply for both his people and the woman he loves.

💞 Favorite Moments
One of my favorite scenes was when Xu Bai first meets Ling Xuan’s daughter, Xiao Zhu. The menace of a child has one condition…she must slap Ling Xuan in the face. Xu Bai does. No hesitation. But she cheats. She knows it, Ling Xuan knows it. But Xiao Zhu does not. Everyone’s happy 😆.

Another standout moment was Xiao Heng spiraling completely out of control after killing his father. Xu Bai being trapped in the aftermath made the engagement feel even darker, and I liked that Ling Xuan understood she was more victim than accomplice.

👩‍💼 The FL & Her Emotional Arc
What I appreciated most about Xu Bai was that she never accepted her fate quietly. Even when everyone around her expected her to surrender to the marriage, she kept fighting her way out. Her bond with Xiao Zhu also added a softer emotional layer that I really enjoyed.

🧩 Why They Fit
Ling Xuan and Xu Bai balanced each other perfectly to me. His intimidating outward presence mixed well with Xu Bai’s quieter but fiercely stubborn personality. They genuinely felt like two people who brought out the strongest parts of each other.

👥 Favorite Cast Moment
The desk scene? Absolutely lethal. Ling Xuan corners Xu Bai while trying to resist his attraction to her, and the tension between them was insane. When he catches her by the waist and pulls her back onto the desk I completely understood the hype. I replayed that scene more than once.

➡️If you enjoy Republican Era warlord romances with obsessive characters, intense chemistry, and a little chaos, this drama is definitely worth watching.

• finding who took the billionaires tie… again.

Today alone:
The CEO lost his memory.
The female lead slapped him.
His secret first love returns with a “love child” just before the leads got a bit handsy.
Someone got diagnosed with a mystery illness.
And the grandmother woke up from a coma just in time to expose a family betrayal.

📖 The Story

He Yueliang is a very hardworking girl. Do you need a delivery made? She’s got it delivered to you so fast that you barely had time to blink. Need something fixed? She’s got a certificate for it, and a whole folder containing all the jobs she is certified to do. Impressive, am I right? Well, she meets the sister of CEO Pei Yubai, and gets roped into interviewing for Mr. Pei’s ‘live-in-nanny’. For 50k yan a month it’s a serious no brainer for her. Except she missed the part of the conversation that it WAS FOR HER TO BE HIS FAKE CANARY. Oh brother! 

He thinks she’s there to try and become his wife and take his money, all the while she’s cleaning his house top to bottom, fixing things, and cooking better than his household staff. He finally starts taking her around to his family to help with getting them off his back about trying to find him a respectable girl. Poor Yueliang has absolutely no idea this is going down, and multiple misunderstandings come from this. Even so, our girl won’t let her boss get talked down to, and will protect him at all costs.
He Yueliang helps Pei Yubai get his backbone in dealing with the family and with her constant support, he slowly starts to fall in love with her. She’s a breath of fresh air, and he’s her backer through and through.

💭 My Thoughts

I am absolutely OBSESSED with this drama. Super cute, super comedic, definitely up there in light hearted dramas. 

Pei Yubai is a man who distances himself from women, because his own family was torn apart from a scheming woman. Yet he finds He Yueliang intriguing and ruthless. He Yueliang is a sunshine filled person who loves money, but not in a gold digging way. Just if I haven’t earned it, I won’t take it. She’s definitely clueless in the sense of love and what certain things could mean in flirting and seduction which brings comedic value to this short. 

⭐ The ML & Why He Works

Zhang Chi is a perfect fit for Yubai. He plays the golden retriever boyfriend so well. He has these eyes that scream “I absolutely love her” without him having to say a word. He shines with a tortured soul and cold ceo vibes. 

💞 Favorite Moments 
When Yueliang is lined up with the other potential candidates for canaries, Yubai starts going through the women one by one telling his staff where they could take them.. oh one is good at cooking? Send her to the kitchen. Instead of being deterred, Yueliang whips out her notebook and starts writing what irks him the most. He thinks her look is an act, but instead he puts her to the test… and she surprises him by passing in a way that’s so unexpected but hilarious. 

Grandma wants to make her kneel for not learning the family rules. Kneel on a bed of ice (looks to be freeze dried ice.. OUCH) and she knows this is how Yubai damaged his knees as a child. She gets angry, and when they try to force Yubai to kneel in her place again, Yueliang loses it. Starts grabbing the ice and whipping it at everyone. Justice is well served in my opinion. 

When Yueliang first moves in and takes on the nanny role, the staff huddle together and talk about how she’s so fast and meticulously thorough, that they have absolutely nothing else to do. And when she cooks for Yubai, a very picky eater, the chef gets upset that she gets him to eat on her first try and he enjoys it. I thought it was cute seeing how the staff saw how hard she was working.

I’ve seen Li Ke Yi do many different types of roles. Although I think her face suits the cute, charming, and ruthless Yueliang so well. Her smile is infectious and seeing her play a girl who doesn’t know she’s deeply in love until it’s so late was so fun.

The cold and lonely CEO needed a dedicated, loyal, and friendly woman beside him. They support each other's strengths and it grew into a love where they couldn’t live without each other.

When they both are starting to realize they actually like each other, she takes on a job to deter another wealthy man’s marriage. He intercepts and stakes his claim. But Yueliang leaves for a moment and Yubai offers the man 5 million to leave and to never contact her again. But there’s a hitch… the other man never paid her 2 million for the job. So when she gets back and Yubai tells her that he spent 5 million for him to leave she feels slighted for missing 7 million when Yubai could have just paid her and she would have left too.

💭 My Thoughts
This one provoked my emotions. Zhong Xi Ran yearns for love, and a true marriage but thinks her husband could honestly take her or leave her.

But when the 'wanna be' white moonlight shows up, that is where things get real interesting. 🍵 

I love her strong will, and Qi Si Nian’s patience. His actions that show he’s not letting her go without a strong fight made me feel like I still haven’t experienced real love in my own life. It gives yearning, spice, and the tears of two people finding out that they may have truly been in love for a while. 💘

⭐ The ML & Why He Works
Handsome CEO? ✅

A man who protects his woman? ✅ 

Yan Zi Xian brought cute/ sexy into this. He brought Qi Si Nian’s emotions to the screen which made me want to shed a tear or two with him. What woman doesn’t love to see a man’s true emotions?!

💞 Favorite Moments 
When Si Nian would allow her to speak first and give an explanation all the while listening to her and giving her time to process what she wanted. I am so over the interrupting and talking over characters so this was a breath of fresh air!

Xi Ran started to embrace Si Nian and initiate cute romantic moments. I’m sure he appreciated them just as much as I did.
There would be these times Xi Ran would need ideas for her job, and would go to Si Nian for help. When he helps her, she gets so excited and cute. He would just stare at her like she brought the sun. 

Huo Xin, (The AWFUL white moonlight), he stages an incident where Xi Ran has to take over for an actress and ride a motorcycle. Which she used to ride all the time before she got married and with him behind her. He just wanted her to remember a piece of their past… But instead she crashes! As her crew for work  instantly wants to send her to the hospital, he swoops in and carries her away like a shining knight in armor. She hates every moment. When in the hospital, the reporters (because why wouldn’t there be reporters) are outside saying he carried her in and it was so romantic… but when Si Nian finds out and rushes to her, he proves to the reporters by carrying her out of the hospital, that he is grateful for Huo Xin for sending her to the hospital, but he will be making sure she gets well with rest with him by her side.

Whew, does Xi Ran have issues. A family that pushed her into a marriage of convenience, abandoned by a scumbag. Despite all this she finds her footing and the man who has stuck beside her for what seems like forever… because it has been. Yu Yi Lei really brought her forward. I can’t say I’ve seen much of her work, but I will say with this drama she really slayed it and I will be watching more of her in the future!

The marriage brings the stability she needs during the worst time of her life, but allows him to fulfill his secret eleven year long crush, proving they are anchored by a powerful, enduring bond.

But she smiles at him like he’s the best thing that has ever happened to her, and bares all. All of her hidden feelings spill out and finally gives them both comfort. I truly thought this was the best scene of the vertical drama!🤩

💭 My Thoughts
Oh MY gosh! This short has everything. Murder, revenge, STEAM (😮‍💨), a little sweetness, some comedy sprinkled in, and of course misunderstandings. Although you may wonder how all these fit together so well, the leads carry EVERYTHING. They fit so well for this story. It had me gasping, clutching my pearls, throwing things (I refrained from throwing my phone, thank god), and giggling like a little school girl. 🫣

⭐ The ML & Why He Works
Zhang Xuan made this drama. He plays aloof bad boy so well. But he also has this charm and flirtatiousness to him that he just ugh makes me gravitate to his dramas. He always seems to find characters that protect his women at all costs. Him playing Julian gave it the strength this drama needed. Julian knows he needs to protect her and he does 👏🏻, he knows who she was the whole time and when he finds out she's the one behind the phone calls… WOOF THE MAN CAN FLIRT. If that doesn’t make you fall in love with this character I don’t know what will. 🫠 

💞 Favorite Moments 
The way he figures out who has been on the other end of the phone calls. He secretly enjoys talking to her without barriers.

Even though this was a forced marriage there is absolutely no shortage of spice. 🤰🏻

Whenever she puts him in his place on the phone and calls him out is chefs kiss. 💋

Dong YuFei made Lottie graceful yet fierce. She hides behind the aphasia just to protect her mother and sister. But don’t let that fool you. Lottie shows the strength it takes to fight for her freedom from a killer, and break free from the chains of being forced to be silent for over 20 years. She finds trust and love with the ML. I give her all the applause. 👏🏻

 A classic remake of “When the Phone Rings”. I loved the Kdrama and love when I find a vertical  drama of the same trope. 
➡️Please watch if you love a good thriller with steam and angst. The push and pull of the leads give everything.

I happened to stumble upon a TikTok that shows some real up close and personal shots… the true actors are the stage crew for sure! I surely enjoyed seeing the giggles and awkwardness that goes into it. 😅🤣
