JUST SAY YOUR A LESBIAN!
So I just finished reading through How About Some Afternoon Tea and I liked it a lot.
However something that just kind of irritated me is how weirdly insistent they are that Kanata isn’t really gay or bisexual its just that she fell in love with Yui who just happens to be a woman, now this isn’t at all unique to this LN as Im sure u know this happens a lot in yuri media and I usually don’t think about it that much cuz it’s not much of a bother most of the time.
It wouldn’t bother me in this case either if Kanata wasn’t so obviously i lesbian! like she says both internally and verbally several times that shes never enjoyed sex with a man or really even been that attracted to any of the men shes dated! It was literally a whole thing where she felt like she was just weird and couldn’t enjoy sex and was self-conscious about it, but when shes with Yui (a woman) all of a sudden sex is the best thing ever.
Also the guy who had a crush on Kanata when she worked at the cafe, she never showed even the slightest bit of interest in him at all and if anything saw him as an annoyance.
So yea, granted she never really shows any genuine attraction to any women other than Yui but it still just annoys me that she can’t just be a lesbian who didn’t realise she was till later in life.
She even has a moment where she thinks something along the lines of ‘does being in love with Yui-san mean Im a lesbian? or maybe bisexual… probably not’ bitch wdym probably not??? even if she ended up being labeled bi that wouldn’t have even sounded believable given how little she seems to be attracted to men.
It also means they do that weird thing where Yui feels like shes corrupted Kanata in some way cuz Kanata was straight before she met Yui (no tf she wasn’t).
Not that any of this matters to the actual story it’s just a small issue i had with it but aside from that i liked it a lot and none of this actually took away from how much i like it at all, it’s honestly just funny how shes never depicted to show even the slightest genuine attraction to men but still isn’t labeled a lesbian.
